Lizzo responds to ‘dumb’ fat joke following drastic weight loss

Superstar Lizzo hit back at critics following a cruel 'joke' about her appearance

Lizzo has always been a body confidence queen, but she has hit back following a cruel fat 'joke' made about her appearance.

The 37-year-old star is an advocate for beauty at any size, but has been on the receiving end of mean comments despite her progress and hard work paying off.

Lizzo has always been beautiful, but is loving her new figure and has been documenting the process online.

The 'About Damn Time' singer responded to trolls who have had something to say about her body in a post on Instagram yesterday (4 December).

Sharing her thoughts alongside a stunning photo of her posing in a snakeskin print bikini, Lizzo wrote: "Today I saw a fat joke about me — in 2025 — and it was viral.

"It was a dumb joke, and they were just laughing at me because I’m fat… Let me be a reminder to everyone to NEVER let anyone shame you for what you choose to do with your body."

She carried on by saying you can't win either way, no matter what you do, someone will have something to say.

Lizzo insisted that 'when you’re big, they talk s***; when you’re small, they talk s***'.

"Your body will never be good enough for them because it’s not FOR them. It’s for you," the singer added.

Her caption continued: "If I get a BBL, mind [your] business; if [I] lose 100lbs, mind [your] business, if I gain every pound back and then some… mind [your] f****** business."

Lizzo concluded the post by confirming she always has the last laugh: "Anyways… my fat a** stays living with a paid off mortgage in y’all b****** heads."

Fans quickly rushed to the comment section to share their support.

"You can’t win, I agree with Lizzo it’s really nothing to do with anyone but yourself," one user wrote.

Another praised: "You look amazing, and you're doing it all for the right reasons."

While someone else simply commented: "YES MAM!"

Lizzo previously said she tried Ozempic, but then preferred sticking to exercise and healthy eating instead of taking the jabs.

During an appearance on Trisha Paytas' podcast Just Trish, she said: "But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same thing."

Trish commented on Lizzo's post too, saying: "U look insanely amazing. Ppl don’t want to see anyone doing good these days!"

It comes days after Lizzo wrote and shared an essay, titled: "Cancel Me (Again): A ‘Cancelled’ Woman’s Take on Why Everyone Should Get Cancelled at Least Once."

Responding to criticism over the piece, the star said: "I deserve to be able to express myself like everyone else. I’m human, I’ve earned the right to be wrong — to be prickly and unlikable sometimes. It’s liberating for a recovering chronic people pleaser like me. Thank you for your comments and criticisms. I welcome it all."
