Lizzo shares image of her butt cheeks and declares she’s ‘not woke’

The 'About Damn Time' singer explained how she's having 'too much fun on Substack'

Lizzo has got candid on her Substack with a lengthy essay about her experience getting 'cancelled' - and a butt cheek pic, of course.

As often comes along with getting famous in the era of cancel culture, the 37-year-old American singer has been harshly criticised by the internet on a number of occasions.

The reasons include outfits she's donned, lyrics of her songs and other social media moments that didn't go down too well.

On a more serious note, three of her performers and touring dancers filed a sexual harassment, weight-shaming and disability discrimination lawsuit against her in 2023.

The shock accusations 'blindsided' the star, who denied all claims, as per E! News, and in December a judge dismissed all seven causes of action against her personally.

However, Lizzo's touring company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Company Inc., is reportedly still a defendant.

During an appearance on the Therapuss podcast in May, she said: "I’ve been cancelled a lot, I shouldn’t say I’ve been cancelled, because I’m still going, but I’ve gotten backlash a lot."

Lizzo added: "Literally every single time I’ve received backlash I use it as a growing and learning lesson."

And now, she's penned an essay about the times she's been cancelled on her Substack account, which she shared to Instagram yesterday (1 December).

The piece was titled: "CANCEL ME (AGAIN): A 'cancelled' woman’s take on why everyone should get cancelled at least once."

The singer shared a screenshot of the title and accompanying photo, which was of her wearing a controversial outfit that partially showed her butt, that got her 'cancelled' back in 2019.

Lizzo wrote in the Instagram caption: "I’m having too much fun on Substack y'all."

She also included the quote: "'I don’t know… I guess I’m not woke ok? Fine, you win!' - Lois griffin."

In the copy, she explained how the 'first time' she got cancelled was December 2019 when she 'wore an oversized t-shirt dress with a hole cut in the back revealing my buttcheeks in a black thong'.

Lizzo penned: "It wasn’t actually my buttcheeks, it was layers of nude coloured tights and some costume underwear. I thought the outfit was camp and fabulously tongue-in-cheek, so I wore it courtside to a Lakers game.

"Everything was going well enough when the lakers dancers, dressed in sexy skin tight booty shorts, asked me to dance with them to my song. Immediately I agreed and when it was my time to shine, I shined."

She recalled how she did her 'signature twerk' and was applauded, as well as how she left having shook hands with 'delighted people in the stands' - but the next day the headlines reflected a different story.

Lizzo recalled: "The next morning I woke up to something I’d never experienced before. Somebody must’ve went back in time and caused some sort of butterfly effect because now, I 'allegedly' ran onto the arena floor and aggressively flashed the crowd, got booed and immediately kicked out of the game. I was so confused because that wasn’t my experience at all!"

She said that 'to name a few,' she's so far been cancelled for 'doing a smoothie detox, wearing a mask, not wearing a mask, playing a crystal flute, crying/complaining, saying she makes music for black women, unknowingly using the s*az slur in a song' before she replaced the lyric the next day, and 'being “out of it” at a meet & greet'.

Lizzo signed off on a positive note, revealing that she's learned to care less about what people think as 'you aren’t getting out of this thing without unintentionally hurting someone’s feelings'.

In her own words - 'F*** it!'
