Tom Hanks is about to hang up Woody's cowboy boots, as the actor revealed he's uttered his final word as the Toy Story character for what is thought to be the last ever movie of the franchise.

While Toy Story 4 isn't hitting cinema screens until 21st June this year, fans already know that the movie will be super emotional. Not just because the plot will tug on your heartstrings just like the previous three animated films, but because it could potentially be the last time we'll ever see Woody, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and the rest of the gang all together.

And actor Tom has now revealed that he's given his "final line" for Woody.

Sharing an image from the recording studio on Wednesday, Tom, who has always been the voice behind the beloved character, wrote: "Final line, final session as Woody of Toy Story 4."

Referencing two of the most iconic quotes from the franchise from Woody and his best pal Buzz, Tom concluded the post: "We rode like the wind, to infinity and beyond. Hanx."

Even though it could be the end of an era, the Oscar award-winning actor looked upbeat as he read out the final line holding the script in front of him - potentially hinting at a happy conclusion for everyone's favourite toys.

And it isn't just Tom who has finished recording, as Tim Allen, who has already promised a "terrifically emotional" movie, tweeted similarly heart-wrenching news for the character of Buzz.

He wrote: "Finished my Buzz for Toy Story 4 today and it got emotional.

"Wonderful full body story. You are all going to love the work this incredible team at Pixar created. We are all going to love this story....man its got everything [sic]."

Earlier this week, Disney Pixar released a teaser trailer which confirmed Bo Peep was returning with a badass makeover.

And along with the short clip came an official synopsis: "Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that's Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie's beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as 'trash' and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy.

"But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family's road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo's adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they're worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that's the least of their worries."
