This Is How Many Hours You've Spent Watching 'Love Island' This Summer

We're not kidding when we say it feels as if Love Island has taken over our lives this summer.

Series five began on 3rd June and has been on for seven days a week (in one form or another) for the past eight weeks since. A grand total of 36 Islanders have walked through the villa doors, and there's been 11 dumpings in that time.

It doesn't bear thinking about how many minutes we've spent watching the cast of 2019 couple, recouple, dump and date.

But like it or not, we've done the maths - and let's just say, you'd better brace yourselves.

There's been 49 episodes of the main show in total. That includes 25 x 60 minute episodes, 17 x 65 mins, 1 x 75 min, 4 x 80 mins, 1 x 90 mins and one bumper 95 minute episode for the final.

There's also been a ton of additional Love Island content to keep us going in the form of Caroline Flack's spinoff show, Aftersun, which aired every Sunday for an hour, and the weekly Unseen Bits show, with a duration of 65 minutes. There's been eight of each.

Therefore, assuming you've watched every standard episode, all the Aftersun and Unseen Bits, you've racked up a grand total of 3,185 minutes viewing time.

That's 53.08 hours AKA TWO WHOLE DAYS and five hours.

You could have literally gone on a weekend away in that time, read six whole books - providing you read one in eight hours - or been on 106 half an hour jogs. Crikey.

A cynic might say we've wasted all those hours rotting our brains, but we have zero regrets.

Love Island is currently the most watched programme for adults aged 16-34 in the UK, across any channel and is the most talked about summer series on social media with over 2 billion impressions on Twitter.

The current fifth season seeing a new record of over 6 million viewers tune in across TV and devices.

And things are surely only about to get worse for our social lives as ITV have confirmed that there will be two series of the reality dating show in 2020.

The infamous Majorca villa will be moving to a brand-new abode in South Africa for a winter edition at the beginning of the year, before heading back to Europe for the original summer session.

Speaking about the announcement, Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV said: "Off the back of a record-breaking year, we're delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule.

"Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences."

He added: "In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location."

The sensible side of us thinks we should put those two days of back-to-back viewing time to better use for the next series, but who are we kidding? We'll be watching.
