Monster - who is Jeffrey Dahmer and what's the Netflix series about?

According to Deadline, the series focuses on the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, a notorious serial killer and sex offender who took the lives of 17 men and boys over a period of 15 years in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

The 10-part series - produced by American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy - is based on the true events which saw Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Monster, be convicted of 16 murders.

Although diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and a psychotic disorder, he was found legally sane and was convicted of the killings in 1992.

Initially indicted on 15 counts, just a few months later, Dahmer entered a guilty plea for another murder and received an additional life sentence.

But just two years later, at the age of 34, he was beaten to death by another inmate. The Netflix series will focus on the murders themselves, and how Dahmer was able to carry out his heinous crimes undetected, for so many years.

According to Deadline, it will be largely told from the point of view of Dahmer's victims, and will also delve into the police incompetence that allowed him to conduct his killing spree.

Penelope Ann Miller and Richard Jenkins are set to star as Dahmer's parents, Joyce and Lionel, while Shaun J. Brown will play Tracy, Dahmer's last intended victim who escaped his clutches and alerted the police.

In addition, Colin Ford plays a character named Chazz.
