The Wicked films have been making headlines for months due to being a box office smash, and many of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's antics together.
Cynthia is claiming the spotlight in her own right this time though, thanks to the Golden Globe nominations.
She plays Elphaba in the musical hit Wicked and Wicked: For Good, and her show-stealing performance has seen the star bag two awards nods.
The star received a nomination for the Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical category for Wicked last year, and she has just repeated the feat again for Wicked: For Good. This means she is the first Black woman ever to be nominated twice in this category.

Also nominated in the category are Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Amanda Seyfried for The Testament of Ann Lee, and Emma Stone for Bugonia.
Until now, only 12 Black women had been nominated in the comedy actress race, ever – and only one has ever won.

Angela Bassett claimed the prize back in 1994 when she played the role of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It.
Even more surprisingly, it took until 2024 to have more than one Black woman nominated in the category in the same year. That happened when Erivo was nominated for Wicked, alongside Zendaya for her role in the tennis film Challengers. Neither of them won, though, with Demi Moore taking it home for her role in The Substance.
Fans reacted with delight to the news.
"Cynthia said ‘one nomination? Cute. Hold my broom.’ First Black woman with back-to-back Best Actress noms. PERIOD!" raved one.
"Cynthia Erivo out here rewriting history like it’s just another Monday," added another.
One commenter wrote: "About time too! Cynthia’s talent shines brighter than a new penny—she's a force to be reckoned with and it's fantastic to see her getting the recognition she deserves!"

The Golden Globe nominations include Best Musical/Comedy Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and two nominations for Best Song.
Each of the new songs, 'No Place like Home' and 'The Girl in the Bubble,' received nominations, but fans have been left stunned that the film didn't receive a nomination for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
The Awards will take place on January 11.
