Wicked fans shocked over Golden Globe 2026 nomination 'snub'

The 2026 Golden Globe nominations have been revealed

It's happened - the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards 2026 are officially in.

Launched in 1944, the Golden Globes are one of the world's premier entertainment awards, recognising the best in motion pictures, television and beyond.

The 83rd ceremony, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, will reveal all of the winners on 11 January - but first, the nominees have been revealed today (8 December).

And Wicked fans are not happy that Wicked: For Good, which was released last month, has shockingly not made it into the category for Best Musical or Comedy.

While the movie's leading ladies, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, have both been recognised in the acting categories, the movie itself has been missed off the Best Musical or Comedy category, which has understandably come as a surprise to many, given its box office success.

The movies that did make the prestigious list are: Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague and One Battle After Another.

It's also not a complete 'snub' as Wicked: For Good has also been nominated for Best Cinematic and Box Office achievement.

However, some fans have been left disappointed and have taken to social media to share their thoughts.

One Twitter user penned: "That Wicked snub and what is No Other Choice doing here."

A second agreed: "Not the Wicked For Good snub omg."

A third questioned: "Just leaving Wicked, the best musical of the year off?"

While a fourth wrote: "Not putting the literal musical of the year is wild."

Meanwhile, another fan angrily commented: "I don't even want to be dramatic, but no #WickedForGood even as a nominee in the Best Musical category is ridiculous."

And someone else chimed in with: "Audibly gasped AND laughed at Wicked: For Good getting snubbed in Musical or Comedy! #GoldenGlobes."

The BBC's entertainment reporter, Steven McIntosh, has suggested that the reason behind the 'snub' could be 'partly due to the source material'.

He wrote: "The second half of the stage musical is widely regarded as being weaker than the first. There are a few reasons for that - the musical's best known hits all feature in the first act, and therefore were in the first film, but the second film is also gloomier, and arguably drags more."

It's not all bad as Wicked: For Good also received two nominations in the Best Original Song category - 'No Place Like Home' by composer Stephen Schwartz and 'The Girl In The Bubble' also by Schwartz.

So all in all, five nominations is not too shabby - and as for who actually takes home the coveted awards, we'll have to wait for January to roll around!
