Adult virgin reveals their true feelings towards Virgin Island after one contestant has sex with surrogate

The show has earned a mixed bag of opinions from viewers, so what do other adult virgins think of the controversial premise?

Whether you’re a fan of the show or not, there’s no denying that Virgin Island has sent shockwaves through the TV world and got everyone talking.

When Channel 4 flew 12 adult virgins to a private and uninhabited island just off the coast of Croatia, I’m not sure producers knew just how much it would interest people.

For those who have been somehow not heard of the show, it follows a group of individuals, none of whom have ever engaged in sexual intercourse, as they throw themselves into the deep end to try and overcome their fears of intimacy.

Using the likes of surrogate therapy, very hands-on workshops, and one-on-one’s with a dedicated team of relationship experts, the contestants aim to leave the island as more sexually liberated versions of themselves.

As expected with a TV show of this premise, it’s not come without its critics - but what do other adult virgins think of Virgin Island?

Writing for Grazia, Allora Dannon shared that she didn’t have her first kiss or make her ‘sexual debut’ until she was 32.

She admitted that despite being apprehensive about how people who lose their virginity later in life would be presented, she ended up being a huge fan of the programme.

“I’d assumed the tone of Virgin Island would be to sensationalise, shock, or ridicule,” she wrote. “Instead, what stuck out to me was the show’s inherent earnestness.”

Speaking of the contestants, Allora added that their ‘openness, even under the weight of their own shame, fear, and embarrassment, was not only refreshing, but inspiring’.

Understandably, she first feared Virgin Island would ‘fetishise and titillate the late bloomer experience’.

However, Allora found herself ‘touched by their honesty, stirred by their bravery, and intrigued by the notion of learning sex, without the emotional confines of a relationship like you would any other skill’.

A particular standout moment for her was the ‘Desire Workshop’ in the first episode, which saw two of the experts get heavy-handed as they pushed each other up against a wall, of course with audible moaning.

Although some viewers at home may have been hiding behind their pillows as they found it cringe to watch, for people who have had similar experiences, the contestant’s tears hit close to home.

Contestant Emma cried as she watched the act of intimacy - a feeling that Allora said she recognises.

She admitted that sex and romance felt entirely out of reach for her which made it difficult to see it depicted in books and movies.

On the show, while all of the contestants learned things about themselves, just one member of the group, named Dave, actually went all the way with their surrogate partner, Kat Slade.

He has since spoken out about finally having sex with her after making a surprising admission about his new girlfriend.

For those Channel 4 viewers who haven't yet sank their teeth into the final episode, we witnessed 24-year-old Dave enjoying his final therapy session with Kat, during which the pair got hot and heavy under the sheets.

Viewers could hear the pair breathing and groaning, with their rumble eventually coming to a rather audible climax.
