The highly controversial and headline-making Virgin Island debuted on Channel 4 last year, and it's clear fans were very intrigued to see what the second season would have to offer.

Season 2 of Virgin Island premiered late last month (27 April 27), treating TV lovers to eight hour-long episodes all about, well, virgins.

Now, on the off-chance you're unfamiliar with the concept, the reality TV programme follows 12 adults aged between 21 and 35 who haven't had sex yet as they head to a luxury Mediterranean resort to work with experts and therapists on overcoming their barriers around intimacy.

It's important to note that the goal of the retreat wasn't necessarily to do the deed, but instead to teach the group a little more about themselves when it comes to the sex and relationships department, and learn a number of lessons about how to actually knock boots, covering important topics like desire, self-pleasure and consent.

As of today (12 May), six episodes of Virgin Island season two have been released in the UK on Channel 4, with the final two episodes airing next Monday (18 May).

It's not taken fans long to rattle through all six and rush to social media to share their thoughts, especially after one particularly 'wild' BDSM scene, which saw one contestant used as a footstool during a particularly X-rated moment.

"Virgin Island is a wild show, but I love it," admitted one X user.

A second declared: "This has got to be the creepiest thing on TV."

"Holy sh*t, what on earth is this Virgin Island programme?" questioned a third as a fourth chimed in: "Virgin Island is a wild show, actually, what am I watching?"

A fifth asked: "Has anyone watched Virgin Island?! I’ve just started it, and I’m shocked!"

"Virgin Island is an utterly crazy show," declared another, and a final X user praised: "Virgin Island - I absolutely rate this programme!! It’s actually so educating, schools need to jump on this!"

Take a look at the scene below:

The BDSM scene in question saw contestant Ed 27, experimenting in a one-on-one session with the likes of Shelby Devlin, a 39-year-old BDSM coach and kink expert from San Francisco.

Ed, who was born with a limb difference in his arm and hand (Poland Syndrome), has previously opened up about the insecurity he feels with his body and scars from various grafts and operations.

He shared with Shelby his possible interest in a humiliation kink as a result of being a victim of childhood bullying.

"Life for me growing up wasn’t easy; being bullied made me lose a lot of my confidence. I’ve worked on it, but it doesn’t take much to knock me back down," Ed bravely explained to the cameras.

Shelby started off the session by embracing Ed in an intimate cuddle in order to establish trust before they engaged in some role play.

The episode saw Ed get down on his knees and crawl towards Shelby under her guidance before she instructed him to put his head down on the floor.

The expert then asked Ed if he wanted her attention, to which he promptly replied 'Yes, ma'am.

She then asked Ed if he deserved her attention, as he replied 'No, ma'am."

"That’s right, you have to earn it…so be good," Shelby teased before telling Ed to be a human footstool for her while she sat on the sofa.

It was at this point that she whipped Ed's backside while saying: "A footstool…that might be an acceptable use for you.

"I think it’s going to be difficult for you to f*ck this up."

To keep things safe and consensual, Shelby made sure to check in with Ed throughout the process to see if he was comfortable with what was happening in the session.

"You bad, bad boy," she told Ed when he informed her he was enjoying the role play.

The session seemed to be a success, with Ed finding a new way to channel his previous feelings of pain into pleasure.

"Sometimes that source of pain that we experience, we can kind of reclaim it," Shelby explained, adding that a common reason why people may ‘crave’ being humiliated is: "If you have a bad emotional or psychological experience at a formative age, as an adult you might want to make it work for you – to feel confident, empowered and safe.

"Communication, trust and safety are what allow someone to fully surrender."
