Jelly Roll fans are convinced they spotted a subtle clue that trouble was brewing in his marriage weeks before news emerged that he had filed for divorce from his wife Bunnie Xo.
The country music star, famous for hits like 'Save Me' and 'Wild Ones', appeared without his wedding ring during a major performance shortly after court documents revealed he had ended his marriage to the podcast host and influencer.
According to court records, Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, in Williamson County, Tennessee, late last month (18 May).
Just a matter of weeks later, the 41-year-old took to the stage at Nashville's Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest, where eagle-eyed fans spotted that his wedding band was nowhere to be seen.
News of Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo's split broke yesterday (ETIENNE LAURENT / Contributor / Getty Images) The singer had previously been known for regularly wearing his distinctive black tungsten ring, making its absence particularly noticeable during the high-profile appearance.
In a social media video shared on his Instagram yesterday (15 June), fans were also quick to notice he wasn't wearing his ring.
"Wedding ring is missing," one fan pointed out while another echoed: "He wasn’t wearing a ring in the last few TikToks they did together either!"
While some fans have linked the missing ring to the divorce filing, there could be another explanation.
Jelly Roll has undergone a dramatic weight-loss transformation in recent years, reportedly shedding around 300 pounds, which could mean that the ring no longer fits comfortably.
The musician has also been photographed without the band on several occasions in recent months, including during a public appearance alongside 46-year-old Bunnie earlier this year.
The pair tied the knot back in 2016 (Jeff Kravitz / Contributor / Getty Images) News of the divorce came as a shock to many fans, particularly given the couple's long and highly public love story.
The former married couple first crossed paths more than a decade ago after meeting at one of his concerts at the Country Saloon in Las Vegas back in 2015.
Moving quickly, the pair ended up getting engaged the following year before secretly marrying in a courthouse ceremony later that same night.
In 2023, the pair renewed their wedding vows at that same Las Vegas chapel, with Bunnie also embracing her role as stepmother to Jelly Roll's two children from previous relationships.
The singer is father to daughter Bailee, 18, and nine-year-old son Noah.
Neither Jelly Roll nor Bunnie Xo has publicly addressed the reasons behind the split.
