The Sanderson sisters are back as Disney has dropped the first trailer for Hocus Pocus 2.

It's the long awaited sequel to the cult classic movie featuring three sister witches causing havoc in the town of Salem.

Picking up 29 years after the events of the first movie, three high school students manage to awaken the Sanderson sisters and accidentally unleash them on Salem.

In the trailer we get our first sneak peek at how the trio of witches have come back from the dead as our new heroes accidentally summon them while practicing magic.

The film's heroes are high school students Becca, Izzy and Cassie, who learn of a special ritual where witches get their powers on their 16th birthday.

As any teenager who discovered they might be in line for magic powers would, the three light the Black Flame Candle which can raise the spirits of the dead as long as it remains lit.

And fans are loving the trailer, with many admitting to being in tears after watching.

One person wrote: "Not me crying after watching the hocus pocus 2 trailer, didn’t know how much i missed the sanderson sisters till i saw this."

While another said: "Cant wait to hocus pocus 2…. i am crying over the trailer."

And a third added: "LAUGHING CRYING THROWING UP AN ACTUAL REAL HOCUS POCUS 2 TRAILER OMGOMGOGMOGMGOMG."

Fans got their first tease of a follow up to the original Hocus Pocus when Disney made an official announcement two years ago.

Original cast members Bette Midler (Winnie), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah) and Kathy Najimy (Mary) were all confirmed to be back on the broomstick (or flying vacuum) for the sequel and fans couldn't be more excited.

The original Hocus Pocus wasn't actually that much of a success when it first released, being a bit of a critical and commercial flop back in 1993.

However, it found a new home on the Disney Channel, becoming a regular fixture on TV all the way through October each year in the run up to Halloween.

Year after year it built up a status as a cult classic movie with an audience of millions of loyal fans who tuned in every single year.

One person who is very excited for fans to watch Hocus Pocus 2 is Winnie Sanderson herself, as Bette Middler said she thought the movie was 'pretty great' when she heard what the plot was going to be.

The trailer keeps things pretty close under wraps, showing us very little but the ritual that brings the Sanderson sisters back from the dead and a few clips of their return to the world of the living.

Obviously we'll just have to watch the movie when it comes out to find out what happens and what twists and turns Middler said were so great.

Hocus Pocus 2 will be available to stream on Disney+ on 30 September.
