Thankfully, Disney has announced that three main stars - Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy - will be back as the spooky Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus 2.
Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler), Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy) will cause havoc in the town of Salem, Massachusetts once again when three young women accidentally bring them back to the modern day.
The new characters - who have yet to be named or cast - will have to find a way to stop the child-hungry witches from taking over the world.
Bette Midler spoke to People about the sequel in November when the plot was still under wraps. The award winning actress gave a few hints about the story and she sounded very excited. "They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor, because it's been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great," she said.
The Sanderson sisters reunited last Halloween for a virtual Halloween party and fundraiser before the sequel to the 1993 flick was announced.
Hocus Pocus 2 will begin production this autumn. Adam Shankman, who directed the 2007 adaption of Hairspray starring Nikki Blonksy and Zac Efron, was originally set to direct Hocus Pocus 2. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses) will take over from Shankman, who is currently filming another highly anticipated sequel - Disenchanted.
Shankman, who will continue to executive produce Hocus Pocus 2, said: "As heartbroken as I am that I won't be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn't be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people's lives with her previous work."
Hocus Pocus 2 is set to debut in 2022 on Disney+.
