People only just realising where else they’ve seen Home Alone star Catherine O’Hara

She may be most known for her infamous 'Kevin!' scream in Home Alone, but Catherine O'Hara fans are only just realising that she also starred in an equally iconic role years later.

There's no doubt that Home Alone is up there in the Christmas film Hall of Fame, having become a firm favourite in the lead-up to the festivities. And perhaps one of the most well-known scenes of the franchise is the moment eight-year-old Kevin's mum Kate realises she's left him behind.

O'Hara, 71, starred as the mischievous child's mum in the 1990 festive flick, which details the chaotic chain of events after he gets accidentally left behind by his family over the Christmas period.

Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is forced to contend with Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), aka the Wet Bandits, as they attempt to break into the home while his family are away.

But, unbeknownst to who they're up against, the pair end up a bit worse for wear after the eight-year-old unleashes a series of brutal traps to stop them in their tracks.

But fans of the franchise may well recognise O'Hara from somewhere else, and they're seemingly only just connecting the dots.

Over on Reddit, people were asked to confess which 'characters by the same actor that you didn't realize at first', and among suggestions such as 'Antony Starr in Banshee and as Homelander in The Boys' and 'Alec Baldwin in Beetlejuice', O'Hara's name also came up.

This is because the actor also stars as the iconic and eccentric Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek.

The comedy, which ran for six seasons between 2015 and 2020, follows the filthy rich Rose family who suddenly go bust and are forced to uproot their swanky lives to go live in the run-down town of Schitt's Creek, the only asset they have left.

The series follows their hilarious escapades as they grapple with the culture shock of moving to a small town, with no money to their name.

Moira is the matriarch of the family, known for her dramatic nature, unique vocab (Bebe!), and flamboyant fashion choices, but fans of the show are only just putting two and two together that the same actor behind the character also stars as Kevin's mum in Home Alone.

"Learned this morning that she was the mom in Home Alone, I never realized ^{^} I just knew her as the lady in Shitt's Creek and The Last Of Us S2," one person wrote on the Reddit thread.

Another agreed: "Holy sh*t, what the f*ck?! That’s her?! Two totally different people.... she aged beautifully."

Meanwhile, some people couldn't believe it's taken this long for fans to clock on.

"I’m mind blown that no one knew this. Home Alone is where I first saw her and remembered her always as Kevin’s mom. Granted that was my favorite movie as a kid. I just find it hard to believe this is so shocking to people," one said.

A second added: "Same!! It must be very young people, like teens or early 20s. I’m in my mid 30s and I can’t imagine anyone my age or older who would’ve missed this lol."
