Could Captain Jack Sparrow be setting sail once more? Believe it or not, a return to the big screen for Johnny Depp’s iconic swashbuckler might not be such a wild tale after all.
Fans of the original Disney pirate franchise have a lot of reasons to be excited as producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently said that Depp is open to reprising his role in a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
There have been five Pirates films so far, starting with the 2003 adventure The Curse of the Black Pearl. In addition to Depp, other notable stars include Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swan, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa, as well as Javier Bardem as Captain Armando Salazar, and Penélope Cruz as Angelica in the later films.

The franchise has spawned video games, books, and Disney theme park attractions. The last time we saw the pirates sail the high seas in a film, however, was in 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Disney is keen on reviving the Pirates franchise, however, more recent reports suggested that Depp would not be part of any future films.
Disney cut ties with Depp in 2018, and after the Oscar winner accused his ex-wife Amber Heard of ruining his career by writing an op-ed alluding to abuse, which did not directly mention him, Depp said Disney dropped him from the sixth instalment of the franchise days after its publication.
Depp also told the court during his highly publicised defamation trial against Heard that he would not play Jack Sparrow again, even if he was offered “$300m and a million alpacas.”

This was in response to a hypothetical question posed by Heard's lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, about whether he would ever work with Disney again on a Pirates film.
But now, Bruckheimer has revealed that Depp is open to the idea of donning his pirate hat once more to return to the role.
“If he likes the way the part's written, I think he would do it," Bruckheimer told EW. "It's all about what's on the page, as we all know."

It is understood that the sixth film would be a reboot of the franchise, but Bruckheimer says there could be a way to include Jack Sparrow in the mix.
“We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay,” Bruckheimer said. “We haven't quite gotten there yet, but we're close."
