Are you committed to Custard Creams? Or a die-hard digestive dunker? Maybe a stick of buttery-rich shortbread is the way to, well, butter you up?

Us Brits take our biscuits seriously - and now, thanks to a recent poll, the nation's favourite biscuit has been crowned.

Ladies and gents, please raise your mugs of tea for... the legendary Chocolate Digestive.

In a poll of 2000 Brits the Chocolate Digestive was crowned Britain's best biscuit (
McVitie's)

It's round. It's oh-so-crumbly. It's topped with smooth and creamy choccie. Mmm!

Frankly, we think the McVitie's classic more than deserves its spot on the winner's podium.

But who were the closest contenders?

Well, the dunkable digestive came top in a survey of 2000 people conducted by UK insight agency Perspectus Global.

Participating Brits were asked to pick out their favourite biccie from a list of 20.

Shortbread nabbed second place, followed by Chocolate Fingers, while Jaffa Cakes and Chocolate Hobnobs came fourth and fifth respectively.

Jaffa Cakes also ranked among the top 5 (

Elsewhere in the lift, long-time favourites such as the Custard Cream and Bourbon made it into the top ten, along with treats such as Jammie Dodgers and the Custard Cream.

Tailing in last, meanwhile, were old school biscuity snacks like the Fig Roll and Garibaldi.

According to the survey, younger biccie eaters are keener on US imports such as Oreo, which was picked out by 63 per cent of the 16-to-29 age group, as opposed to just 15 per cent of the over-60s.

Ginger Nuts, meanwhile, are a firm favourite with the older generation, and were selected by 60 per cent of the over-60s participants, and only 31 per cent of youngsters.

Now all that's left to argue over is the do-you-or-don't-you dunking debate. Going by the polls, 23 per cent of 16-to-25 year olds are pro-dunking, compared with 11 per cent of over 60s.

Brb, we're suddenly in the mood for a Chocolate Digestive and a cuppa.
