Princess Beatrice just normalised something royals are usually forbidden from doing

Princess Beatrice quietly introduced baby Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi to the world with a public outing earlier this week

Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi introduced their six-month old baby to the world this week, taking her out for her first public appearance.

And in doing so, the mother-of-two normalised something that’s usually very rare for the royal family.

For those who missed the news of the outing, the parents were spotted at the Lionesses victory parade in London on July 29 with baby Athena, their three-year-old daughter Sienna, and Edoardo’s son Christopher Woolf.

They were in the middle of the action at The Mall as they cheered on the women’s England squad in a crowd of 65,000 people, following the team’s Euros 2025 victory on Sunday (27 July).

Beatrice gave birth to her second child, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, on 29 January at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. And fans were delighted to see the family out and about with their new addition, who was sweetly strapped to her dad’s chest in a carrier.

People rushed to social media to share their love for the couple and their children, with one user writing: “Lovely. Really like Eugene & Beatrice. Admire how they stay so grounded, especially with parents like theirs.”

Another added: “Wow!! I loved this. They could have had premium access but they chose to be just as ordinary as possible.Princess Beatrice is living the thrill of non-royalty. I also loved how they involved their children in such an experience.”

However, others have picked up on the fact that it seems like there was actually no security with the royal family, which has left some people surprised since it was such a huge event.

They appeared to be in the main section of the parade along with other spectators with no extra protection.

It’s a well-known fact that most members of the British Royal Family have security for their public outings to protect them in case of worse case scenarios.

And you definitely wouldn’t see the likes of working royals like Prince William or Kate Middleton without a bodyguard.

But, according to Nottinghamshire Live, because Beatrice and her sister Princess Euginie aren’t actually working royals, they don’t get their own security in most cases.

The publication reports that the siblings did previously have police protection, however, this cost £500,000 annually so it was withdrawn in 2011 by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Though it was reported last year by Sky News that the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had her protection officers reinstated for public events whenever she is representing the royal family.

If this is the case, it makes sense that Beatrice didn’t have security for this particular outing, as she was simply enjoying time with her family, not working as a royal or representing her family.

Royal family fans have since taken to social media to react to the pictures, with one user writing on Twitter: “They are there with their young children as well. Perfectly safe.. no one seems to be bothering them.”

Others are comparing the situation to Prince Harry, who received full, publicly funded security protection until he stepped back from royal duties with wife Meghan Markle in March 2020.

The Duke of Sussex then lost a court of appeal challenge over his security arrangements and is now provided downgraded state-funded police protection on a case-by-case basis when he visits the UK.
