The Prince of Wales has divided opinion online by bringing his daughter Princess Charlotte to watch the The Women's Euro 2025 final on Sunday (27 July).
Prince William and his 10-year-old daughter looked elated as they watched England triumph over Spain at St Jakobs Park in Basel, Switzerland.
After an initial finish of 1-1, the Lionesses won 3-1 following an intense round of penalties.
However, it wasn’t Princess Charlotte’s attendance that caused backlash from royal family fans - it was the lack of Prince George and Prince Louis.’

The Prince of Wales attended the men's Euro 2024 final in 2024 with his son, Prince George, 12, who is a keen football fan.
So, while Charlotte was there cheering on the women’s squad, some social media users took issue with the fact that Prince William didn’t bring his sons to the game too.
One user took to X (formerly Twitter) to question: “Where's Prince George, who is a huge England football fan? Is the women's game not equal to the men's then?”

Another furiously penned: “Again Prince William sending the message that women’s football is not real football; it’s football for girls.
“He’s never taken Charlotte to a men’s game, just George. Unlike Felipe, who takes Infanta Sofia to men’s games as well.”
“I’m wondering if it is that Prince George doesn’t care for women’s football or Prince William thinks it’s not for boys to watch and support, so Charlotte is assigned to support the lionesses instead? That would be very backward thinking, but that’s how I think he is,” someone else chimed in with.
Meanwhile, another questioned: “Not sure why he couldn't take both (or even all his kids) to the final?”

“Prince George is a keen football fan and will offer watch England games with his dad. Why is Prince George not attending the Euros final with his sister? Is it because it's women?” asked someone else.
However, others rushed to the defence of the family, arguing that people are simply making something out of nothing and looking too far into it.
One user wrote: “Simple explanation is Prince William realises it’s good for a Dad to spend a day out watching sport with his daughter as he has spent time with his son previously!”

And another queried: “Wonder if it’s anything to do with him and George not being able to fly together. Doesn’t that come in to effect from the age of 12?”
Meanwhile, a third simply penned: “Don't over-analyse. Can't the father take his daughter to the game?”
After the incredible victory, William wrote on social media: “What a game! Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe. We couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment England."
And elsewhere, a statement released after the match ended, King Charles III said: "For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant 'football's coming home.'

"As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true.
"For this, you have my whole family's warmest appreciation and admiration. Well done, Lionesses. The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can."
Congratulations, Lionesses!
