First, there was the blue and black or white and gold dress - now there's Kate Middleton's hair.

Just when we thought the saga had come to an end - the internet has once again been left confused after new pictures of the royal's locks have popped up.

For those who need a reminder, the Princess of Wales publicly debuted a new hair colour earlier this month, during a visit to the new gardens at London's Natural History Museum.

She was joined by husband Prince William as they returned to their royal duties after their summer break, with Kate swapping out her brunette locks for much blonder hair.

Fans rushed to compliment the royal on the big change, which was first spotted a few weeks prior through a car window, as she made her way to a church service in Scotland.

One Royal Family follower wrote on social media: "That's a gorgeous colour!"

Another added: "Talk about a hair transformation," complimenting the princess' new look.

However, there was some confusion sparked less than a week later, when Kate embarked on another royal outing - this time to visit the National Federation of Women’s Institutes on 8 September.

Some of the pictures taken at the event appeared to depict Kate's hair looking dark, which left people baffled as just days before she'd been seen with blonde tresses.

Social media users began to question whether she'd actually dyed her hair back and ditched the blonde completely.

However, it was quickly realised that it must have simply been a trick of lighting and angles that caused her hair to look so different.

The New York Post reported that Kate had 'returned to her classic brunette look' after getting backlash from cruel trolls about her new hair colour.

However, fans of the princess were quick to point out that 'nothing had changed' and some of the other photos from the event proved that it was in-fact, blonde.

But now, the debate has seemingly struck up again as Kate attended the funeral of the Duchess of Kent at Westminster Cathedral today (16 September).

A few of the pictures taken by Getty Images' royal photographer Chris Jackson make Kate's hair look even lighter this time, bordering on silver, when in reality it is still honey blonde.

But it wasn't just her hair that looked different - fans also pointed out that the pictures made her outfit look royal blue, when it was actually black.

One confused Twitter user reacted to the image by writing: "Am I suddenly colourblind? She was wearing black from head to toe, and her hair wasn't grey either... What's the point of that?"

A second added: "I don’t know who is playing around with filters, lighting & contrast but the Princess of Wales was wearing her black bow tie Catherine Walker coat dress & certainly not a navy blue version."

And a third wrote: "I honestly thought it was just the lighting. Every time I turn around in these pictures, it looks like she had 1000 outfit and hair changes."

Someone else agreed: "Yes, her hair looks silver."

And another Twitter user chimed in with: "Good grief she is wearing black and a filter makes it look navy and her hair is not silver."
