People have pointed out an awkward flaw in Ivanka Trump's Lunar New Year post that could mean she's in for an unlucky twelve months.
The 43-year-old eldest daughter of US President Donald Trump and his first wife, Ivana, took to Instagram to celebrate the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar.
Lunar New Year is the most important holiday in China, as well as being widely celebrated in Korea, Vietnam, and other countries with a significant Chinese population.
This year, the mystical day fell on 17 February, meaning we've now officially left behind the Year of the Wood Snake and are kicking off the Year of the Fire Horse, which will span from yesterday to 6 February 2027, the first date of the Year of the Fire Goat.

Also known as Chinese New Year, the celebration cycles through 12 different animals and the five traditional Chinese elements - earth, wood, fire, metal, and water.
As we say, Ivanka is among those celebrating and shared a post on social media featuring a picture of her looking off-camera while wearing a smart white blazer.
She wrote in the caption: "Today, a new lunar cycle begins. The Year of the Fire Horse calls us to courage, to energy, to intention, and to fearless creation. It is a year for bold ideas, decisive action, and turning vision into something enduring.
"I am stepping into it with clarity and conviction, ready to bring forward projects I have been quietly nurturing, ideas nearly ready to meet the light. I cannot wait to share them with you."
She added: "Forward, with strength. With gratitude. With purpose. Excited for what is ahead. Happy Lunar New Year 新年快乐."
However, as we say, people in the replies were quick to point out that white may not have been the best outfit choice.
This is because in Chinese culture, white is sometimes associated with death and mourning, while red is favoured as the luckiest colour, symbolising celebration, success, and good fortune.
One X user pointed out: "Wearing white on Lunar New Year is considered unlucky. This is because white is associated with mourning, death, and funerals."

While a second told Ivanka: "You aren’t supposed to wear white. You’re supposed to wear bright colors, red, blue, gold."
And a third wrote: "The way you aren’t supposed to wear white on Lunar New Year because it will bring mourning, death, and funerals…"
"Ivanka Trump celebrates Lunar New Year by posting a photo of herself wearing white, a color associated with funerals and death in Chinese culture," penned a fourth.
While someone else brutally wrote: "Yea, if you're sincerely celebrating CNY, you wear red. Ivanka has apparently made a conscious effort to avoid red entirely."
And another explained: "@IvankaTrump in Chinese culture, white is traditionally associated with death, mourning & funerals, making it an inauspicious color to wear in daily life or during celebrations like the Lunar New Year."
The more you know! Sorry if you were wearing white yesterday...
