Kate Middleton has been fiercely defended over her divisive outfit choice she donned for her most recent royal appearance over the weekend.

On Saturday (8 November), several members of the royal family gathered for the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Kate was joined by King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, her eldest son Prince George, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Her husband, Prince William, was not in attendance due to his five-day trip to Brazil. At the time, he was travelling back from the COP30 UN Climate Change summit in Belem.

The festival, which was hosted by Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, saw performances from the likes of Sir Rod Stewart, Sam Ryder and Keala Settle, as well as music performed by the Central Band of the RAF, the RAF Squadronaires and the Band of HM Royal Marines.

The Princess of Wales, who was sitting next to George, donned a black dress with a white collar by Alessandra Rich with an HMS Glasgow brooch and earrings belonging to the late Queen to pair.

Her dress was adorned with a handmade poppy created out of silk, glass and other natural materials by Izzy Ager, of Lock and Co, who has recently graduated from the Royal School of Needlework.

However, such an ensemble proved to attract quite the attention online, with many royal fans rushing to social media to share their verdicts on the outfit.

One Instagram user jabbed: "Grandma Kate got her old lady dress on."

"WTF is Catherine wearing," slammed a second, while a third piped up: "I'm sorry, but Kate's dress looks like a servant from Downton Abbey."

Others, however, rushed in to defend the mum of three with a fourth praising: "A lovely dress. Reminiscent of the 80s. I had one similar."

A fifth chimed in: "She’s at a memorial... what do you expect her to wear... dear dear... go find yourself some morals..."

"She is wearing a dress fitting for the occasion, and she looks as amazing as ever," beamed a sixth.

Another maintained: "She looks fine. She looks beautiful as always. It's a dress appropriate for the occasion. It's not about the dress, it's about the event. What a silly, silly comment."

And a final fan echoed: "Whoever criticises Princess Kate’s absolutely gorgeous dress - which suits her perfectly - merely proves that they haven’t the faintest sense of style."
