On Friday last week (30 May), Elon Musk and United States president, Donald Trump, held a joint press conference to mark the end of the former's tenure as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Clearly dressed for the occasion, which took place at the White House's Oval Office, Musk donned a 'DOGE' hat as well as a matching T-shirt that read 'The Dogefather' in The Godfather movie's font (via People Magazine).

However, it was the 53-year-old tech billionaire's black eye which really stood out.

After clocking the quite noticeable shiner on his right eye, many rushed to social media to question what had happened - something which Musk himself eventually revealed at the conference.

One X user penned: "Is it just me or does @elonmusk look a bit bruised up on his right eye? Did he get into a tussle or something?"

A second chimed in: "Okay, did something happen to Elon? It kind of looks like he had a fight, and that bruise doesn’t look good at all."

As a whole load of speculation buzzed about online about the cause behind the bruise, Musk himself finally addressed the issue.

When answering questions from the press during the Oval Office meeting, one reporter asked if Musk would explain what happened to his face.

He attempted to joke that he wasn't 'anywhere near France' when it happened - a reference to the viral 'slapping' video between French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, last Sunday (25 May) - before sharing what had happened.

The Tesla CEO admitted that he got the bruise while roughhousing with his five-year-old son, X Æ A-12 - who he also calls 'Little X'.

"I was walking around with Little X and I said, 'Go ahead and punch me in the face,' and he did," Musk claimed. "I didn't really feel much at the time but I guess it bruises up."

'Little X' is one of Musk's three children whom he shares with his ex Grimes. The former couple also share daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, as well as their youngest son, Techno Mechanicus Musk.

And, interestingly enough, 78-year-old Trump, who was sat beside Musk for the whole meeting, remarked that he didn't even notice the injury.

Other than his three children with Grimes, Musk also had six children with his first wife, author Justine Wilson. The first of which, Nevada Alexander, tragically passed away from SIDS at just 10 weeks old.

He also shares four kids with Neuralink executive, Shivon Zilis, as well as reportedly having one with author and political commentator, Ashley St. Clair, last year.
