Donald Trump issues threat to Elon Musk after billionaire launches fresh attack on president amid public 'break-up'

The pair have become tangled up in yet another social media back-and-forth amidst the speculation surrounding their 'break-up'

There has been a whole lot of goings on when it comes to United States president, Donald Trump, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk over the past few months.

Ever since Musk officially stepped down as the frontman of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), referencing the mandated 130‑day limit for his special government role as opposed to a falling-out, speculation about a 'break-up' between the pair quickly emerged and it seems like the chatter isn't dying down anytime soon.

As we know, the two men share quite a history with Musk, whose Tesla cars have been heavily endorsed by Trump, heavily bankrolling his presidency campaign before, as we say, being later made the non-Senate-confirmed head of the DOGE.

In the ever-developing 'break up' saga, we saw Musk call Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' a 'disgusting abomination', as well as threatening to 'fire all politicians' who sided with it, and also tweeting that Trump was named in the Jeffrey Epstein files.

There has, needless to say, been a whole lot more back-and-forth on social media between the two men who seemed only a matter of weeks ago to be buddy-buddy at White House events and Oval Office press conferences, with another recent instalment in the online feud seeing Musk make a major U-turn after admitting he may have taken things a little 'too far'.

And now, the latest update in the saga sees Trump now issuing a pretty serious threat towards Musk, 54, after the SpaceX billionaire launched a fresh attack on the 79-year-old Republican amid their alleged public 'break-up'.

Speaking about Trump's controversial 'big, beautiful bill' - which was passed by the House Republicans in May and includes multi-trillion-dollar tax breaks and more defence spending, while also allowing the US government to borrow more money - Musk penned on X last night (30 June): "It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!

"Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people."

Around an hour later, he added: "Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!

"And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth."

And, in another follow-up tweet, the Tesla CEO stated: "If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.

"Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE."

Taking to Truth Social earlier today (1 July) to share his response to Musk's series of social media posts, Trump scrawled: "Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV (electric vehicle) Mandate.

"It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one."

He continued: "Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.

"No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this?

"BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!" Trump concluded.
