Several of Donald Trump's former Republican allies have called for his removal from office, including Marjorie Taylor Greene

The former congresswoman and ex-Trump ally has rallied together with a number of other politicians, citing the 25th Amendment in an attempt to see the President's power withdrawn.

Their plea follows a staggering lethal threat Trump, 79, made against Iranian leaders on Tuesday (7 Apr), where he vowed a 'whole civilisation' of Iranians 'will die tonight' if they refused to make a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Before Iran and the US agreed to a two-week ceasefire, the Republican leader told government officials they had a deadline of 8pm Washington time to reach a decision on the vital waterway, which has remained closed since US-Israeli troops launched their initial missiles at Tehran in February.

Taking to Truth Social, he wrote: "I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.

"However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalised minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?

"We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!"

It isn't just Democrats who have taken serious issue with Trump's violent threat, however, but several of his former political comrades, including Marjorie Taylor Greene ('MTG').

Taking to X, the former Georgia rep wrote: "25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilisation."

Greene added: "This is evil and madness."

The 25th Amendment, which has not yet been enacted in US history, allows for the removal of a president from office if they're deemed unable to carry out their duties. It would take Vice President JD Vance's approval, as well as that of the majority of Trump's administration.

The final decision would then lie with Congress.

Greene isn't the only Grand Old Party member to cite the legal bill, however.

Former Republican congressman Joe Walsh also tweeted: "25th Amendment. Now." Another ex-congressman, Adam Kinzinger, agreed, adding: "This is absolutely insane and 25th amendment grounds in and of itself."

Even a number of America's most notorious conservative media figures have called for the intervention, including far-right commentator Candace Owens, who wrote online: "The 25th amendment needs to be invoked. He is a genocidal lunatic.

"Our Congress and military need to intervene. We are beyond madness."

Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones also asked on his Infowars show: "How do we 25th Amendment his a**?"

Several left-leaning politicians have also expressed their horror in light of Trump's threat, backing calls for the amendment to be invoked.

Among them is Minnesota rep Ilhan Omar, who described him as an 'unhinged lunatic' who needs to be 'removed from office'.

California rep Ro Khanna agreed, warning on X: "Threatening war crimes is a blatant violation of our constitution and the Geneva Conventions."

Yassamin Ansari, a rep for Arizona, chimed in on Tuesday, tweeting: "In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed every line."

Michigan rep Rashida Tlaib also wrote online: "After bombing a school and massacring young girls, the war criminal in the White House is threatening genocide. It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment."

Her remark referenced the obliteration of Shajareh Tayyebeh, an all-girls elementary school in Iran's Minab city, on the first day of the US-Israeli strikes, which killed 175 people inside, including more than 100 children.

Amnesty International claims the US were responsible for the attack, saying 'US authorities could - and should - have known it was a school building, and failed to take feasible precautions to avoid civilian harm'.

The US is currently investigating the strike. Reuters reports that US military investigators believe the US was likely responsible for the strike, but did not rule out new evidence emerging that would absolve the country.

"This maniac should be removed from office," Tlaib added.
