Donald Trump’s complex family tree explained in full

Who fits in where in the Trump dynasty?

It can feel easy to lose track of the sprawling Trump family – a challenge that is unfortunately only going to get harder, as it’s set to expand with the arrival of Tiffany Trump’s first child later this year.

And of course, his family is back in the spotlight more than ever now he's well into his second term in the Oval Office.

While Trump’s multi-billionaire status is well-known, not everyone knows about the origins of his success, which have roots much further down the family tree.

So, let's take it back to the beginning. Here's Trump's family tree broken down for you.

Frederick Trump and Elizabeth Christ Trump

The powerful dynasty began with Trump’s grandparents, Frederick (b. 1869) and Elizabeth (b. 1880) – German immigrants who moved to Queens in 1907.

Frederick, who had started developing real estate, sadly died in 1918 after the Spanish flu pandemic took hold, leaving his wife to continue the business.

Trump’s dad Fred (b. 1905) – one of Frederick and Elizabeth’s three kids - married Scottish-American socialite Mary Anne Macleod (b. 1912) in 1936.

They went on to have five children: Maryanne Trump Barry (1937-2023), Fred Trump Jr (1938-1981), Elizabeth Trump Grau (b. 1942), Donald J. Trump (b. 1946) and Robert Trump (1948-2020).

Fred forged a successful career as a real estate developer and businessman, allowing son Donald to come and work from him at his company – now known as The Trump Organization - in 1968.

Donald Trump

Now serving as the 47th President of the United States – his second stint in office after a first between 2017 and 2021 - we imagine this guy may need no introduction.

However, his family tree might.

In total he’s been married three times, through which he’s had five children and 10 grandchildren – soon to be 11.

Let’s start off with those wives:

Ivana Trump

(Married 1977-1990)

Trump’s first wife Ivana (1949-2022), nee Zelníčková, was a Czech-American businesswoman who helped build The Trump Organization into the powerhouse it is today, holding key managerial positions at the company over the years.

Before Trump, she was married to Alfred Winklmayr, and later went on to wed Riccardo Mazzucchelli and Rossano Rubicondi, divorcing the latter in 2009.

Marla Maples

(Married 1993-1999)

Georgia-born Marla (b. 1963) is an actor and TV personality who was married to Trump for six years.

Their relationship was shrouded in controversy, after things fired up while he was still married to Ivana, in turn sparking a media frenzy.

Melania Trump

Born in the Soviet Republic of Slovenia – then part of Yugoslavia, First Lady Melania (b. 1970) started out as a model when she was a teenager.

After being introduced to Trump in 1998, they married several years later and are still going strong – now with two presidencies under their belt.

Okay, what about Trump’s kids – and their kids? Let’s break it down into the three marriages.

Donald Jr

Donald Jr (b. 1977) shares five kids with ex-wife Vanessa: Kai (b. 2007), Donald (b. 2009), Tristan (b. 2017), Spencer (b. 2012) and Chloe (b.2018).

Ivanka

Meanwhile, Trump’s daughter Ivanka (b. 1981) and husband Jared Kushner have three children: Arabella (b. 2011), Joseph (b. 2013) and Theodore (b. 2016).

Eric

Eric (b. 1984) and wife Lara are parents to two kids: Eric Luke (b. 2017), who goes by his middle name and Carolina (b. 2019).

The only offspring from Trump’s marriage to Marla Marples, Tiffany (b. 1993) is currently expecting her first child with husband Michael Boulos – this little one will become Trump’s 11th grandchild.

While we don’t know the exact due date, when Trump was inaugurated in January this year, she said she was six months pregnant.

Known for his towering frame, 19-year-old Barron (b. 2006) is Melania’s only child.

After graduating from Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida, last year, he enrolled in New York University’s Stern School of Business last September.
