Trump slammed for 'tone-deaf' five word remark to journalist after she told him her husband is a soldier

US President Donald Trump's response to a BBC Ukraine reporter sparked outrage on social media

Donald Trump’s message to a woman and her Ukrainian soldier husband left social media users up in arms.

US President Donald Trump was in The Netherlands to speak at a NATO press conference when a BBC Ukrainian reporter took to the mic and asked him an important question. But his reply left a sour taste in people’s mouths.

Trump recently was in hot water after he shared a private text message he received from the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte.

Having posted a screenshot of the message on his own social media platform, Truth Social, on 24 June, Rutte congratulated him, and also called Trump ‘extraordinary.’

Stating that he is going to ‘achieve something NO American president in decades could get done’, people were icked about the whole thing.

One Twitter user penned: Just when you thought your jaw couldn't drop any further... Donald Trump releases a private message sent by NATO Sec General Mark Rutte - with a very big claim, and written, it would seem, in the most Trumpian language. What a world.”

But when Rutte went on to call him ‘daddy’, people lost the plot. Anyway, it’s safe to say that his trip has been eventful, particularly when Queen Maxima was seen allegedly mocking how he speaks.

However, now people are fired up over how he spoke to a Ukrainian mother in need.

During his Nato press conference on 25 June, Myroslava Petsa asked Trump about the potential for US to sell anti-air missile systems to Ukraine.

Before answering, Trump asked her: “Are you living, yourself, in Ukraine?”

She replied: “My husband is there, me and the kids, we’re in Warsaw actually.”

Trump asked: “Is your husband a soldier? He’s there now? That’s rough stuff, right?” Petsa replied that he was in Ukraine.

When Petsa asked if the US planned to send anti-air missile systems to help the nation defend itself from Russia, he said that ‘we're going to see if we can make some available’.

He continued, however: "You know, they’re very hard to get. We need them too. We were supplying them to Israel, and they’re very effective — 100% effective. Hard to believe how effective.

"And they do want that more than any other thing, as you probably know."

The POTUS told her to pass on a message from him to her husband wishing him ‘luck’… and people are not pleased.

He said: “I wish you lotta luck,” in reference to the Ukraine versus Russia war, which has been going on for three years now.

He then said: "I mean, I can see it’s very upsetting to you. Say hello to your husband, OK? Thank you."

People were quick to slate Trump for his response to the woman in need, and many took to social media to slam him.

One person claimed: “A dismissive ‘good luck’ isn’t a policy, it’s a shrug in the face of daily missile strikes.”

Another wrote: “The most insulting part was Trump ending with, ‘Tell your husband I said hello.’ Tone-deaf doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

According to the X page, Kyiv, the city of courage, his words were not what the country needs, as it hit back: “A Ukrainian BBC journalist, whose husband is fighting at the front, asked Trump if the U.S. will sell Patriot missle systems TO Ukraine.

“His answer: ‘We need them for ourselves… and for Israel. Good luck.’

“Ukrainians don’t need luck, Mr. President. We need air defense, now.”
