People seriously divided after Donald Trump called ‘daddy’ by NATO chief during conference

NATO's Secretary General Mark Rutte just called Donald Trump 'daddy' in a bizarre moment during The Hague summit

The word ‘daddy’ is something we never expected to hear from the mouth of the Head of NATO, especially not when referencing the President of the United States.

But, to the surprise of everyone, that’s exactly what just happened as Secretary General Mark Rutte tried to justify Donald Trump's outburst about Iran and Israel yesterday (24 June).

For those not up to speed, Trump dramatically dropped the F-bomb while slamming the two countries for ‘violating the ceasefire’ he announced.

Speaking to reporters before heading off to NATO summit at The Hague in the Netherlands, he said: “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard, that they don't know what the f**k they're doing."

The clip, understandably, divided opinion as people were shocked to hear a world leader swearing.

And now, seemingly defending him for doing so, NATO boss Rutte bizarrely referred to Trump as ‘daddy’ as the president compared Israel and Iran to ‘kids in a schoolyard,' in a clip shared by ITV News. Take a look:

The Republican leader said: “They fight like two kids in a schoolyard, you know, they fight like hell - you can’t stop them. Let them fight for about two or three minutes then it’s easier to stop them.”

Laughing, Rutte chimed in with: “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language”.

Trump agreed, responding with: ‘Strong language, every now and then you have to use a certain word”.

As the video travels around the internet, people don’t know what to make of the wild nickname - some found it hilarious, while others dubbed it ‘embarrassing’.

One Twitter user wrote: “A new level of cringe: Rutte calls Trump Daddy.”

A second agreed, penning: “Europe's humiliation reaches new depths: As if yesterday’s cringey texts weren’t enough, Mark Rutte just called Trump 'Daddy.'...”

And a third shocked person added: “What! did Rutte NATO Chief call Trump Daddy? How far will he sink next polish Trump's shoes? This is absolutely awkward.”

However, others found the comparison funny and saw no issue with it, writing

“Come on, it was a well-placed joke” and “Oh Lawd!!!! Love this so much.”

And another chimed in with: “Either he was trolling or some slip. As long as Trump liked it, who cares?”

The ‘cringe’ moment comes just after Trump leaked his private text messages with Rutte - and people were not impressed.

The President posted a screenshot of the lengthy and gushing message, which has since been confirmed to be real, on Truth Social on Tuesday (24 June).

The text in question reads: “Mr President, dear Donald. Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action in Iran, that was truly extraordinary, and something no one else dared to do. It makes us all safer.

“You are flying into another big success in The Hague this evening. It was not easy but we’ve got them all signed onto 5 percent!”

He continued: “Donald, you have driven us to a really, really important moment for America and Europe, and the world. You will achieve something NO American president in decades could get done.

“Europe is going to pay in a BIG way, as they should, and it will be your win.”
