Great-Great-Grandma, 93, Arrested By Her Own Request After A Life Of 'Being Good'

Great-Great-Grandma, 93, Arrested By Her Own Request After A Life Of 'Being Good'

A great-great-grandmother has finally fulfilled her dream of being arrested "before it's too late" granted by Greater Manchester police.

Ninety-three-year-old Josie Birds was arrested on 22 June after revealing she wanted to be handcuffed to tick the experience off her bucket list following a life free of crime.

The heartwarming moment was organised by Josie's granddaughter Pam Smith, who asked police if they would "arrest" her grandmother to grant her wish.

Sharing the moment on Twitter, Pam shared several photos of her grandmother being handcuffed by two off-duty officers and brought to Manchester's Harpurhey Police Station in a police van - all with a smile on her face.

In the tweet, Pam said: "A big thank you to @gmpolice for 'arresting' my Gran Josie today.

"She is 93 years old and her health is failing, and she wanted to be arrested for something before it's too late. She has a heart of gold and thoroughly enjoyed it today. Thank you for granting her wishes."

Adding in another post: "[Josie] has never put a foot wrong all her life. She is quite poorly now and wanted to do something 'naughty' while she still has the strength to enjoy it.

"This has definitely put a bit smile on her face! [Josie] is quite poorly and wanted to do something like this while she still has the strength to enjoy it," she continued.

"She's been good all her life (she says....) and wanted to have an experience to remember! She's a star."

And while those handcuffed by police are usually taken into custody, Josie, who has six daughters, 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, was instead treated to tea and cake after they questioned her "rigorously".

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police responded to the post and wrote: "I'm glad our officers could help out, looks like she got the full experience.

"Give our best to Josie and I'll try and pass your message back to the officers who kindly helped out."
