Royal expert reveals King Charles' secret signal that allows him to end a conversation

Apparently, certain royals have special signals for when they need to politely end a conversation.

Royal historian Hugo Vickers claimed to People: “What they all do [the Royal Family] is try to find a quick joke to leave it on.

“Prince Charles has a quick ‘ha ha’ and that enables him to break the conversation.”

Hugo also spoke about Charles' reported habit of fiddling with his cufflinks – although it's not clear if this is simply a sign of nerves.

Speaking on Pod Save the Queen in 2018, body language expert Judi James said it can be a 'sign of anxiety', adding: “He does three or four little movements in a ritual.

“Charles’ grandfather did exactly the same rituals.”

Judi claims Charles has another signal for when he wants to leave a situation – 'pointing at nothing'.

In another episode, Express reports, Judi said: "You know when he’s not quite enjoying himself, he does what’s called the ‘pointless point’."

“It’s instead of engaging with things. He gets his index finger out and points at nothing.

“The Queen’s done it for years and he’s picked up on it as well. He chuckles as well so we all think he’s really happy, but I don’t think he is totally happy to be honest.”

King Charles has been performing ceremonial duties in the UK since his mother the Queen passed away on Thursday 8 September.

On Monday, 19 September, the King will say his final goodbyes to his mother as she is laid to rest. The Queen's funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey at 11.00am and Her Majesty will be laid to rest in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle. Prince Philip will be moved from the Royal Vault so he can be laid to rest with his wife.

A royal expert has predicted the Queen will be laid to rest wearing only two pieces of jewellery.

Lisa Levinson, head of communications at the Natural Diamond Council told Metro: “Her Majesty is an incredibly humble woman at heart who is unlikely to be dressed in anything but her simple Welsh gold wedding band to rest and a pair of pearl earrings.”
