‘Neptunic’ sexuality identity explained as term grows in popularity

The ‘Neptunic’ sexuality is becoming a more popular conversation topic as the term gains traction, but you might not have ever heard of it before.

Sexuality is individual to the person, and generally, it is believed to be a spectrum.

While some are happy enough identifying themselves as gay, straight or bisexual, these labels didn’t feel right for many people.

So, other terms were birthed and welcomed under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.

From demisexual, to pansexual and polysexual, more people are finding new terms that perfectly describe how they feel.

This is when Neptunic was created in around 2017.

Neptunic is a relatively new sexuality term that is used to describe when a person is attracted to neutral non-binary individuals, feminine-aligned non-binary people and women.

But they are not attracted to men.

Another term for this is nomascsexual.

You can also use it along with your pronouns, for example: “I am a neptunic cis woman.”

While you might be wondering how it is different from the lesbian label, there are a couple of differences.

Being a lesbian means that you typically are a cis or trans woman who is attracted to a cis or trans woman.

But neptunic people tend to be non-binary, and unlike lesbian, the neptunic term isn’t associated with being a woman, so it seems more fluid.

However, that doesn’t mean the term is off limits to others who are attracted to those under the sub type.

When was 'Neptunic’ created?

Per reports, it was created by user socialjusticeichigo on August 31, 2017, as a short version of saying nomascsexual.

In recent years, with the rise of non-binary people, there have been other sexuality terms created to allow them to be inclusive.

For example, there are two other neptunic counterparts: uranic and saturnic.

Uranic is the attraction to men and masculine or neutral non-binary people, while saturnic is the exclusive attraction to androdynous-aligned non-binary people.

All three take inspiration from our solar system.

Another sexuality that has become more talked about in mainstream media is demisexual.

Viewers of I’m a Celeb were introduced to the term by former N-Dubz singer, Tulisa when she revealed her orientation.

Essentially, it means that a person is attracted to chemistry having a ‘close emotional bond’.

Many people might now identify that way thanks to the awareness she brought.
