People make same complaint over 'unexpected' casting for Beatles biopics as four major actors announced

Fans seem pretty divided over who has been announced to take on each of the four Liverpudlian stars in a new four-film 'cinematic event'

People are clearly utterly divided over the 'unexpected' casting for The Beatles biopics as four major actors have now been announced.

The musical biopic genre has clearly been having a moment in Hollywood as of recent years ,with A Complete Unknown (2024) all about Bob Dylan starring Timothée Chalamet, Back to Black (2024) about Amy Winehouse starring Marisa Abela, and Elvis (2022) about, you guessed it, Elvis, featuring Austin Butler as the lead.

But the latest film to be announced in the genre is about one of the world's favourite and most famous bands - responsible for global smash-hits like 'Here Comes the Sun', 'Twist and Shout', and 'Let It Be'.

Now, Skyfall director Sam Mendes will be directing The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event, which boasts an extremely star-studded main cast.

We'll see the likes of Babygirl star Harris Dickinson play vocalist and rhythm guitarist, John Lennon, while Aftersun heartthrob Paul Mescal will take on the role of Paul McCartney, who played bass guitar and the piano as well as sharing primary songwriting and lead vocal duties with Lennon.

Ringo Starr, the drummer of the Liverpudlian quarter, will be played by Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan, while Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn will portray lead guitarist George Harrison.

After catching light of the casting, it's clear people couldn't wait to rush to social media to share their verdicts with one X user hitting out: "This is so incredibly disappointing lol."

"Not sold on Mescal and Keoghan casting idk why," confessed a second, while a third chimed in: "Just a mess…"

And a fourth hit out: "Joseph Quinn looks nothing, like absolutely NOTHING."

Many others, however, were beyond buzzing with the news with one writing: "This casting is definitely an interesting mix! Paul Mescal as McCartney feels like a strong choice, and Joseph Quinn has the charm for George.

"Barry Keoghan as Ringo is unexpected but intriguing, and Harris Dickinson as Lennon could be a wild card. Overall, it’s shaping up to be an exciting project - can’t wait to see how they bring The Beatles to life!"

A third similarly chirped: "The cast lineup is wild can't wait to see how they bring the legends to life!"

"This casting is actually insane… in the best way possible," echoed a fourth and a final X user declared: "Ok this kinda eats!"

Well, whatever your thoughts on the matter, we've gotta strap ourselves in until the four flicks eventually hit the silver screen in April of 2028!
