If you've endured a particularly arduous week at work, or Mercury Rising has got you trapped in all the wrong feels, sometimes all you need is a good old sob-fest.

That's right, often there's nothing more cathartic than getting all those boo-hoo's out with a proper snotty cry.

And apparently, a brand new film has just landed on Netflix which is absolutely guaranteed to assist with all your tear-jerking needs - and to make matters even better, it stars Normal People heartthrob Paul Mescal.

So much so, that many fans who've already had the chance to sink their teeth into this 2022 blockbuster have claimed it totally blindsided them with emotion, joking that the film 'ruined' their weekend - in the best way, of course.

So, if you've got no plans this weekend and you fancy testing the limits of your tissue box, stick your comfiest PJs on, grab your softest blanket, fill up a bowl of your favourite cinema stacks and buckle in for the most 'heartbreaking' ride of your life....

The star-studded movie - which following it's release saw main man Paul nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award - tells the story of a woman named Sophie who reflects on the final holiday she embarked on as an 11-year-old with her now-somewhat-estranged father, Calum.

The movie predominantly centres on the ins and outs of their vacation, during which they travel to a fading resort in Turkey to celebrate Calum's 31st birthday.

While Sophie sets her sights on the highs and lows of being a teenager, Calum is still adjusting to the often harsh realities of being a young single father.

As she continues to reminisce, Sophie's recollections inadvertently turn into a powerful portrait of the man who raised her, changing her thoughts on the man he is now.

We are, of course, talking about Aftersun.

It might not sound like too much of a heartbreaker, but I promise you, the stellar acting, magnificent landscapes, and excellent portrayal of a seemingly mismatched father-daughter duo will have you sobbing like a baby in no time - not to mention the absolutely stomach-wrenching ending...

Don't just take our word for it, though, as many viewers have said the exact same thing.

After Netflix took to social media this week to announce the movie would be landing on Friday (21 June), one fan penned: "People aren’t ready for the gut punch".

Sharing a screen grab, another went on: "If you haven’t seen Aftersun this scene won’t have the same impact. If you have seen it then you all know how truly heartbreaking this is. I get goosebumps watching it."

"*it's finally time to cry my eyes out again!," a third joked.
