People We Meet on Vacation has soared to the top of the charts on Netflix, with many people touting it as the latest 'must-watch' film.
It's an adaptation of the 2021 book of the same name, written by Emily Henry, and is a hugely popular romance.
Naturally, there was a lot of excitement when fans discovered it would be coming to our screens.

The film tells the story of two old friends, and it tracks their relationship over a series of holidays.
It stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth and has been receiving mixed reviews so far.
People have been comparing it to the likes of One Day, which was another Netflix smash-hit book adaptation from 2024.
While there's nothing wrong with the movie as such, many viewers have been sharing the same issue with it.
They've argued that People We Meet on Vacation deserved more than just a film and should have been a series instead.
“This should’ve been a miniseries like One Day (2024) and I will die on this hill,” fumed one on X.

Another added: “I’m sorry but People We Meet On Vacation was sooo boring. Emily Henry is my favourite romance author and I was so excited but … maybe it would’ve worked better as a miniseries.”
Someone else commented: “Couldn’t shake the feeling that People We Meet on Vacation would have worked better as a series(an episode for every vacation) allowing us more time to fall for Poppy and Alex so the emotional weight felt heavier when needed but still a fun watch!”

One viewer insisted: “I watched People We Meet on Vacation and I agree, it needed to be a series. You finish the movie wanting more. There are so many questions unanswered. I need more Poppy and Alex.”

Another confessed they'd never read the book, but while they gave some compliments they also agreed with what everyone else has been saying: “Okay, People We Meet On Vacation... I haven't read the book. But I thought that the actors were fine, colour grading was gorg, but I agree with the general consensus that this should have been a miniseries.”

They continued: “Or maybe it was a directing issue? Adaptation issue? Editing issue? It felt disjointed and fell flat emotionally. Kinda bummed because we are in dire need of good romcoms.”
With any book adaptation, things will be moved, missed out entirely or changed.

One fan of the written version of People We Meet on Vacation felt the movie 'took out too much' from the book.
Even viewers of the film wish they'd had more, and it would have been given space to breathe had it been a series on Netflix.
“People We Meet on Vacation was everything I wanted it to be. Even though I still maintain it was more fitting to have be a TV miniseries,” somebody else penned.
The film has taken the top spot ahead of The Life of Chuck and KPop Demon Hunters.
