The Disney fandom is a dedicated one indeed.

You can always count on them to voice their opinions very loudly online when it comes to any major announcements pertaining to sequels, casting controversies and, in this instance, live-action reboots.

Now, one of the most famous Disney flicks to hit cinemas in the last decade is none other than Moana, which came out nine years ago.

After getting their first dose of the titular character, who embarks on a physical and spiritual journey around the fictional island of Motunui in the Pacific Ocean, a setting inspired by the real-life Polynesian cultures of Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga, fans were itching for their next instalment, which came with the sequel eight years after the first film.

But we've since been treated to the first teaser trailer of the upcoming live-action remake of Moana, which is set to hit our screens next summer (10 July).

Check out the 'first look' here:

After catching light of the news, people rushed to social media to share their gripes, namely over the fact that the first film in the Moana franchise came out fairly recently in 2016, with its sequel, Moana 2, coming out just last November in 2024.

One X user fumed: "Mind you, this is a 1:1 remake of an animated Disney film that's ain't even 10 years old. AND THE SEQUEL CAME OUT LAST YEAR."

"The original animated version hasn't even turned in its grave yet," pointed out a second while a third jabbed: "Another 'live-action' remake? When will Hollywood stop ruining classics for clicks?"

A fourth theorised: "Lol. They have no ideas left."

"There is ZERO creativity left in Hollywood," slammed a fifth while another shared: "I thought remakes were done on things that were like 30-40 years old lmfaooo.

It’s just too soon for that 100%. And WAYYY too soon for this Moana live action."

The live-action remake will hit cinemas in July 2026 (Disney)

And a final X user echoed: "They didn’t even let the original finish ageing before hitting it with the reboot treatment."

Others, however, were much more excited about the upcoming release, with one fan commenting: "This is gonna crush it!"

"Banger incoming!" gushed another, as a third praised: "The visuals are stunning!!!"

The live-action remake will see Catherine Laga'aia play Moana, while Dwayne Johnson will take on the role of Maui.

John Tui, meanwhile, will play Chief Tui while Frankie Adams takes on the role of Sina. And then we've got Rena Owen playing the fan-favourite Gramma Tala.

Per the trailer, the movie will feature songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda's original soundtrack, including 'I Am Moana', which Lagaʻaia sings throughout the teaser.
