The show first kicked off back in 2013 before drawing to a close in 2021, but some viewers are actually only discovering it for the very first time.

The series begins with Bea Smith (played by Danielle Cormack) who has been sentenced for the very first time for the attempted murder of her abusive husband.

The first series of Wentworth focuses on the dynamics of the prison clique and the consequences the prisoners face after their governor is killed during a riot.

Also starring is Nicole da Silva, Pamela Rabe, Kate Atkinson and Shareena Clanton.

You can watch a trailer for the show below:

After discovering the show for the first time, people are saying it's better than Orange is the new Black, which is a pretty strong claim.

One person wrote: "Personally it made OITNB feel like a cheap knock off. Good acting, more serious than Orange but still fun."

While another said: "I loved it. Watched all seasons. I know OITNB is super popular but I just couldn’t get into it. I’d say it’s worth watching for sure!"

And a third added: "One of my all time favorites! Definitely underrated. A hidden gem. Not to miss. Better than OITNB, IMO."

Meanwhile, a fourth even dedicated an entire Reddit post to encouraging other people to watch it.

"Among my friends and family, I feel like I'm the only one watching this Australian show. Wentworth, which is like an ultra-violent Orange is the New Black, leans more into the OZ kind of prison-show atmosphere than anything else I've seen," they wrote.

"The drama and tension keeps me glued to every season, the acting is top notch and the series features a chilling villain unlike any I've seen - Joan Ferguson, played by Pamela Rabe.

"... Who else is watching Wentworth?!"

If you want to catch all seasons of the show, you can find them over on Channel 5's streaming platform, My5.
