Originally airing on Channel 5 back in April, the layered and intense psychological drama has since climbed to the streamer's 'No. 2 in TV Programmes Today' spot - just under Outer Banks.

The four-parter follows the Haynes family; Nick (Lee Ingleby), Jessica (Claire Goose) and daughter Alice (Freya Hannan-Mills), and their desperate need for a fresh start following some bad financial decisions.

They decide to take in a house lodger Sian (Jill Halfpenny) to alleviate some of the pressure, but their life unravels when said lodger unmasks her true identity and reveals dark family secrets, sparking chaos and destruction.

The series is none other than The Cuckoo and you can check out the official trailer here:

People have rushed to social media sharing their praise over the series, with one X user writing: "If you're looking for a gripping thriller with no sex and very little swearing (yes, a rarity nowadays) The Cuckoo on Netflix is fantastic!

"Claire Goose and Lee Ingleby. I can't recommend it enough!"

A second quipped: "The Cuckoo on Netflix is so f**ked."

While a third praised: "The Cuckoo was yet another well made drama on @channel5_tv.

"Great cast and an edge of the seat storyline. Never seen Jill Halfpenny play a role like this, she was brilliant.

"I loved the ending. I hope there is a season 2. It seems channel 5 is the home of top quality dramas."
