Every celeb who's called out weight loss drugs as Kate Winslet makes terrifying prediction

A handful of Hollywood A-listers have shared their thoughts on weight loss drugs, and their popularity surges worldwide

Warning: This article contains discussion of eating disorders which some readers may find distressing.

As the popularity of weight loss drugs surges all around the globe, a number of celebrities have openly shared their criticism of the controversial medication.

Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer behind Ozempic and Wegovy, has highlighted that Ozempic is primarily meant for adults with type 2 diabetes rather than those looking to lose weight, while Wegovy and Mounjaro (the brand name for tirzepatide from Eli Lilly) can be prescribed by the NHS for weight loss.

The two brands of the medication we seem to hear the most of, at least in pop culture spheres, are Ozempic and Mounjaro - both of which come with several side effects too.

A handful of celebs have since used their respective platforms to call out the so-called weight loss jab epidemic, sharing concerns about misuse, access, side effects, and rising costs, particularly as people get them privately due to strict NHS criteria, leading to calls for better regulation and integrated obesity care beyond just medication.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the Titanic A-lister said she was 'upset' by the amount of women in the spotlight changing the way they look, whether that's weight loss drugs, which have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, or getting cosmetic work done.

Speaking specifically about weight loss drugs, Kate continued: "It’s so varied. Some are making choices to be themselves, others do everything they can to not be themselves."

She also expressed concerns for health, calling the 'disregard' for it 'terrifying'.

"And do they know what they are putting in? The disregard for one’s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f**king chaos out there," she said.

Jameela Jamil

Taking to Instagram in November 2022, the British actress and activist hit out: "The side effects of these drugs, especially if you are not actually diabetic, are CATASTROPHIC. Worth going through if you desperately need the drug for survival only.

"It's important to note also, doctors in my DMs want you to know these drugs are only a temporary weight loss method. As soon as you stop [...] the weight comes straight back on. And the metabolism has been harmed. So it's ANOTHER F**KING QUICK FIX SCAM."

Jameela concluded: "It's not worth it. Don't choose this hatred of women's bodies. Don't allow them to take our energy, our spirit, our fight. Our lives. Don't risk your future for this submissive obedience."

Earlier this year in January, Trainwreck actress - who has publicly stated she uses Mounjaro for weight loss - shared her thoughts on Ozempic and discussed her 'horrible experience' on the drug.

"I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy," Schumer said on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show. "So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like bedridden.

"I was like, vomiting — and then you have no energy. But other people take it and they’re all good. So, God bless them."

She then joked that all the positive effects of Ozempic being advertised are 'red flags', recalling that she was so nauseous while taking the weekly injections that she was basically 'shrivelling away' in bed.

"I lost 30 pounds so quick. I looked great, but I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. So what’s the point?" she hit out.

Tyla has reached out to Novo Nordisk for comment.

Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall said back in August that she is resisting Ozempic despite the public scrutiny revolving around her appearance - specifically, her body.

"I have a daily battle with myself not to go on Ozempic," she told The Guardian. "I don't judge people that do, but because I have a history of eating disorders, I don't know where taking something like that would end for me."

She shared that she had only been out of the hospital for a few months after treatment for anorexia when she auditioned for The X Factor back in 2011 at 18.

"Historically, if I've ever felt that something is out of my control, then restricting food has been a means of controlling my life in a very toxic way," she said.

Jade continued: "Now I'm in my 30s and the healthiest I've ever been, but every time I post a picture, there are comments saying, 'She must be pregnant.' The sad thing is that it's usually women.

"But people are used to seeing me in a group environment five or 10 years ago, when I was stick-thin because I was in my early 20s with an eating disorder."
