Amy Schumer has candidly opened up on the debilitating side effect she suffered while she was on GLP-1 medication.
The 44-year-old comedian has been extremely honest with her fans about her experience on the drugs throughout the whole process.
She revealed she began taking Ozempic, a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, for the purposes of losing weight around 2020 - but it didn't exactly go to plan due to some pretty adverse side effects.
While Ozempic hasn't been approved for weight loss, other similar drugs like Mounjaro and Wegovy have, and all three of them are on the rise in the UK and US.

A 2024 poll by Healthline found that one in eight American adults had at least tried a GLP-1 drug, meanwhile more and more celebrities are admitting they've turned to the jabs.

As well as Amy, the likes of Sharon Osbourne, James Corden and Rebel Wilson have all publicly spoken about their choice to try out the medication.
And while Amy looked incredible in photos she shared to Instagram yesterday (29 October), sporting a stunning red Valentino mini dress, her experience on Ozempic wasn't a completely positive one.

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show in January, she revealed that her negative reaction to the drug may have been down to her genetics.
She explained: "I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy.
"So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was, like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting - and then you have no energy. But other people take it and they’re all good. God bless them."
Amy said she was 'shrivelling away' due to the extreme nausea she was dealing with while on the medication.

The comedian explained: "You’re like, ‘Wait a minute. Can we slow down?’ The side effects are you have a better personality. I tried it and I was vomiting and I’m in bed and my son’s like, ‘Can you play tag?’ I’m like, ‘I can’t.’ I was shrivelling."
"I lost 30 pounds so quick," she said. "I looked great, but I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. So, what’s the point?"

She also spoke about her experience during a 2023 episode of of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she admitted that being on Ozempic wasn't 'liveable' for her due to the side effects.

The actress revealed: "I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son. I was so skinny and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t].
"But I immediately invested because I knew everyone was going to try it."
Amy turned to a different GLP-1 drug, Mounjaro, and has undergone a dramatic weight transformation in recent years, getting on much better with this medication.
According to Hello! Magazine, she's lost more than 40 lbs, and she said earlier this year that it's 'been great' after being she was prescribed it alongside oestrogen and progesterone for perimenopause.

A spokesperson for Ozempic's manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, previously told Tyla: "Patient safety is of the utmost importance to Novo Nordisk. We recommend patients take these prescription-only medications for their approved indications and under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
"Use of GLP-1 medicines such as Ozempic® (semaglutide injection) and Wegovy®▼ (semaglutide injection) may be associated with gastrointestinal (GI) side effects. In the phase 3a clinical trials with Wegovy® for weight management, GI side effects (such as nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea) were among the most frequently reported during dose escalation, most were mild to moderate in severity and resolved without permanent treatment discontinuation.
"We continuously collect safety data on our marketed medicines and work closely with the authorities to ensure patient safety. We recommend that any patients experiencing side effects while taking GLP-1 medicines report them to their healthcare provider and via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme: https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/."
Tyla has reached out to Novo Nordisk for further comment.
