Travis Kelce’s ex Kayla Nicole’s ‘awkward’ four-word remark when asked about Taylor Swift engagement

Travis Kelce's ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, had an 'awkward' four-word response when asked what she thought about the NFL star's engagement to Taylor Swift.

Now, no one wants to be asked about their ex, especially not about their engagement, so it's understandable that the fashion influencer and sports journalist didn't have a whole lot to say.

But before we get into that - here's a quick reminder of the pair's relationship history.

Kayla and Travis began dating in 2017 and were in an on-again, off-again relationship for five years, before calling it quits in 2022.

Then, in July 2023, the Travis and Taylor dating rumours kicked off after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end shot his shot during the singer's Eras Tour, by publicly declaring that he wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it - and they say love is dead?

It's safe to say Taylor was impressed, comparing the move to an '80s John Hughes movie' and agreeing to go on a date with the sports star.

Going into details on a recent episode of Travis' New Heights podcast, Taylor gushed: "[It's like] he was standing outside of my window with a boombox saying, 'I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?'"

We're all familiar with what happened next!

Now, the couple are happily engaged after Travis announced he'd popped the all-important question on 26 August, sharing a slew of Instagram snaps from the big moment - including the romantic flower garden he got down on one knee in, and Taylor's hefty diamond ring.

The celebrity pairing's happy news broke the internet - racking up over 30 million likes in less than 48 hours.

And this week, MailOnline decided to ask Travis' ex Kayla what she made of it - not awkward at all.

In a red carpet interview recorded at the House of Champion event in New York, the reporter asked: "Do you have any comment on Travis' engagement?"

And Kayla was, as to be expected, very quick to shut down the topic of conversation and return the chat to the event she was attending.

She simply said: "Oh, no, no, no!"

Kayla then added: "But I'm really happy to be here at Champion though, this is a good party."

However, before the slightly awkward question was asked, Kayla confirmed her relationship status as single.

"We have a lot of males asking if you're single or not," the journalist told her.

To which she laughed as she responded: "Oh really? Tell them yes, I am. Whoever is asking, absolutely!"

When quizzed on the type of man she's looking for, the influencer explained: "Oh, I love a very honest man. A man of really great character, someone who likes to have fun, spontaneous, great relationship with their family."

She added: "Has really good girl friends, the list is long!"
