It's always awkward when an ex appears to move on before you do, but it must be even worse when it takes place on the world's stage.
After Kayla Nicole and Travis Kelce called it quits in 2022, all eyes were on her when the NFL player went public with his romance with Taylor Swift the following year.
How do you cope when the new girl is one of the most successful women in the world, who comes with legions of devoted hardcore fans?
That's the dilemma sports journalist Kayla seemingly faced when the couple went public in 2023, and she was forced to issue a plea to Swifties everywhere.

Now that the Travis and Taylor are engaged, all eyes seem to be on Kayla once again, with some people leaving 'weird' consolation comments on her social media posts.
When fans found out that Taylor and Travis were officially an item, Kayla was soon overwhelmed by the attention.
During an appearance on the Unapologetically Angel podcast last year, she opened up about the experience and how hard it was to handle.
“I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and just online chaos doesn’t impact me,” she confessed, before adding: “It does. Even to this day.”
Kayla and Travis had an on-and-off-again relationship from 2017 to 2022, after Kelce apparently slid in the DMs and started flirting with the broadcaster.
In April 2024, Kayla made a heart-breaking plea to Taylor's fans, writing on X: “I’m unproblematic. Mind my business. Never respond to the constant vitriol. Solid as they come & don’t expect a pat on the back for it either.
“Just know everyone has a breaking point & would love for ‘y’all’ (because you know exactly who you are) to leave me alone.”
She referred to the mean-spirited comments she kept receiving online, purely for having dated the man Taylor was now seeing.
One fan even shared a make-up free pic of her and posted a vomit emoji underneath it on X, causing Kayla to reply: “YOU WILL NEVER MAKE ME HATE ME. Hang it upppppppp bookie.”
“It’ll be people debating why I’m worthless and how I’ll never be a talented person, and I have no career, and I’m a bum,” she recalled of the comments, calling it 'unfortunate'.
Kayla continued: “I think there’s something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people. And it’s unfortunate because I’ve never done anything to warrant that kind of backlash.”
As far as the public is aware, Kayla has stayed single since the split with Travis, but she did say the whole experience has made her think twice about how much she shares publicly.
“I don’t see myself doing that anytime soon,” she admitted. “People can’t pick out what they don’t know about, and I would just protect my relationships from here on out.”
Hopefully the new wave of comments will stop again soon, but after 32 million people liked the announcement of their engagement, that's a lot of eyes on the situation.
