Timothée Chalamet defended over ‘rude’ gesture to Tina Fey

Timothée Chalamet has landed himself in hot water again after making a gesture towards Tina Fey that critics insisted was 'rude'.

The actor has caused controversy of late thanks to his comments about ballet and the arts, and now he is in the spotlight once again for his interaction with 30 Rock star Tina Fey.

Chalamet was sat alongside Fey, as well as his girlfriend Kylie Jenner and Hollywood star Ben Stiller as they watched the New York Knicks play the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden.

Critics have hit out at the star after they noticed how Tina Fey was sitting, compared to the actor.

She was sat bolt upright with her knees clamped together, as it appeared she was squashed for space sitting on the front row of the game.

In comparison, Chalamet has been accused of 'manspreading', sitting with his legs wide apart and appearing to be taking up some of Fey's space,

One angry viewer wrote on Reddit: "Holy manspreading. Damn, that's really rude."

Many people classify 'manspreading' as the act of sitting with your legs wide apart, and taking up everyone else's space (usually women's space).

Another pointed out: "And it's not even like he can use the 'I'm a big/tall man, I need room' excuse. There is zero reason he needs to take up that much space."

"Tina is over it," joked another, while one added: "The absolute audacity to manspread into Tina Fey."

Someone else said the star was feeling a little too relaxed: "Timothée acting like he’s at home on the couch! Somebody tell Timothée Chalamet this isn’t a legroom competition with Tina Fey."

One said simply: "No manners at all. Who is this guy?"

Others defended him, pointing out one key part of the picture.

"He's not manspreading, he's trying to not spill those three drinks on the court," insisted one.

Another agreed: "I mean it looks like he's got three drinks between his legs lol."

"He has three drinks between his legs. He needs the space, she'll be ight," argued one fan.

"How can she expect Timmy to close his legs with all those drinks under him?!?!?" observed this commenter.

"He's got three drinks down there!" another confirmed.

Some commenters just shared their sympathy for Fey, adding: "This is constant for small women!"

"She is squeezed in there, damn," marvelled another.

"Both men beside Tina are man-spreading and literally squishing her legs," said one fan, before another found a different picture and realised it was her 30 Rock co-star Tracy Morgan, which got fans very excited.
