Kristen Bell has raised eyebrows by admitting the unexpected thing her husband, Dax Shepard, does as a way of flirting.
The Nobody Wants This star, 46, and comedian and actor, 51, have been married since 2013 and share two daughters, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11.
However, Shepard’s way of showing affection to his wife isn’t what you’d typically expect, as she revealed during Monday’s episode of his Armchair Expert podcast.
During the instalment, Shepard was joined by Bell, and her Nobody Wants This co-stars Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, and Timothy Simons to discuss their new season three, when the conversation settled on her character’s ex-boyfriend, who was played by Avan Jogia.

Shepard talked about how he often projects his own insecurities about his appearance onto other people who might feel the same way by complimenting them.

“I try to find something really nice on someone and flag it,” he said.
Bell revealed: “That’s how I know you’re flirting with me a lot. There’s a couple of things Dax does where he doesn’t have to look up and wink at me, but I know that he’s just being the best boy.”
Explaining the concept to her confused co-stars, she continued: “We’ll be at dinner and, like, he’ll say to the waiter or waitress, he’ll go, ‘Wow, you have incredible eyelashes, gorgeous eyes. Great, great job.’
“But that’s flirting with me because he just made someone else feel good.”
She elaborated: “Let’s say it is a girl; he’s gonna have zero interaction with this girl for the rest of his life. The chances of him ever having another conversation with her are so microscopic.”
Bell also made sure to clarify that he’s ‘never done anything that’s felt even borderline’ crossing the line, while Shepard said the one thing he’d never compliment is someone’s lips, because ‘that’s crazy’.
The candid admission has sparked a debate on social media, with some people struggling to understand the unconventional flirting technique.
One X user brutally penned: “That's not how flirting works between spouses works, Kristen.”
While a second added: “I can’t imagine the discomfort of doing a waitress job and some guy going on about my “gorgeous eyes” in front of his wife?? Why do famous people think it’s okay to treat service staff like this??”

And a third wrote: “Oh heck no!! He’s disrespectful af.”
Others, however, were more on board with the idea, as one fan defended the couple by writing: “She phrased it in an odd way, but she’s basically just saying that she’s attracted to her husband being kind to other ppl. Why is everyone so pressed?”
A second agreed: “Wait, I’m so confused about the Dax hate. Also, she’s loving that her husband treats other people well; I’m so confused by this.”
A third quipped: “Honestly, that's kind of sweet - showing your partner they light you up even when they're just being their charming self with others.”
And a fourth added: “That's actually the healthiest relationship take I've heard in a minute. Most people confuse jealousy with love, but she's out here redefining what flirting even means.”
