Taylor Swift fans spot Travis Kelce engagement photo just broke weirdly specific Instagram record

Swifties are still absolutely reeling after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on social media yesterday (26 August).

The pair, who had been dating for around two years, are finally making it official and shared the news with an adorable five-photo Instagram carousel with the caption on the joint post reading: "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married [dynamite emoji]."

The photos feature a series of adorable scenes of Taylor and Travis embracing one another during the proposal, which took place in a gorgeous setting surrounded by flowers and foliage.

After the initial shock of the engagement died down (just a tad), fans were quick to spot that the post didn't take long to break a very specific Instagram record, with many rushing to social media to share their elation.

Now, according to figures shared by Meta with Billboard, the world-famous engagement announcement amassed a staggering 14 million likes in just over an hour.

And if that wasn't enough, it also saw a whopping 452,000 reposts too.

At the time of writing, about 17 hours after it was first uploaded, the Instagram post stands at a mammoth 27.8 million likes.

One X user quipped: "Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement post has garnered over 10 million likes in an hour!"

"Taylor Swift now owns the most liked post ever on Instagram for any woman, with over 26 million likes in 13 hours," alerted a second.

A third pointed out: "Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez now own the two most liked engagement posts in Instagram history."

"Taylor’s engagement post is now the 12th most liked non-football Instagram post ever in only 11 hours!" gushed another.

And a final X user beamed: "Taylor Swift now owns the most liked post ever on Instagram for any woman!"

Yep, Tay and Trav's engagement post ranks 10th in the most-liked Instagram posts posted by non-footballers which makes the 'Love Story' singer the recipient of the most-liked post ever for any woman on the popular social media platform.

Zendaya's birthday post to Tom Holland ranks in at 12th, and Selena Gomez's 'Violet Chemistry' selfie comes in at 13th.

Aside from stats and figures, fans have also been keen to find out just how much Travis forked out for the engagement ring with one jeweller, Rich Goldberg, describing it as 'timeless'.

“Based on the limited photos we currently have, the centre diamond looks to be an elongated cushion cut of approximately five to six carats,” he told The Independent.

“A diamond shaped like this could also be a ‘old mine’ brilliant cut, which is essentially an antique diamond, with a cushion shape. The setting looks yellow gold and is wider at the top, tapering down with engraving on the sides, possibly with a couple very small inlaid gemstones.

“This gives the ring a vintage look, which is timeless, rather than something trendy. A truly beautiful ring style, perfect for the life of a showgirl.”

Meanwhile, jeweller Steven Singer believes the ring could be worth up to $2 million (£1.4 million).

“It looks like 7.5 carats and set in an antique decorative reproduction with engravings and either 14k or 18k gold or rose gold,” he explained.

“The price of the ring depends on who sold it and if at retail. Most likely $1.5 to $2 million. For us it would have been $1 million.”
