Kylie Jenner has sparked backlash with her latest, unexpected career move.
The 28-year-old beauty mogul has teamed up with tech giant Meta and eyewear specialist EssilorLuxottica to launch a smart sunglasses range.
If you haven’t heard of Meta glasses, they’re essentially AI-powered, with a built-in display and camera, meaning you can record and take photos of your surroundings while wearing them - you can also listen to music, take calls, and ask questions.
The Meta store describes the accessory as ‘normal-looking eyewear with discreetly integrated glasses technology’.

However, ever since they were first introduced back in 2021, they’ve divided opinion, with some people claiming the smart glasses are an ‘invasion of privacy’ and raising questions over ways they could be used.
For example, TikTok videos have been piling up of men secretly filming women as they ask them questions or try pick-up lines, without their consent or knowledge.
So, understandably, a huge name like Kylie Jenner releasing a collection has prompted a mixed bag of responses.
Kylie co-designed three custom styles, which are all a stylish, oval shape with a gem detail, with prices beginning at £359 - but the most interesting selling point is that the AI bot responds to questions in none other than Kylie’s voice.
The Meta site reads: “Whether you're asking Meta AI for a quick tip or just navigating your day, hear every response in Kylie's voice.”
As mentioned, though, not everyone is on board with the futuristic collection, as one X user angrily wrote: “Weird, dystopian, surveillance nightmare pushed by big tech, essilor-luxottica and Hollywood.
A second brutally added, “Every celeb complicit in this is literally disgusting, like scum of the earth type s***. Why are you promoting these perverted ass spy cams?”
While a third wrote: “Surveillance, but make it FASHION!” and a fourth agreed, “y’all are weird af for creating surveillance glasses.”
“This should be highly illegal. Nobody consents to being recorded as they go about their day,” demanded a fifth.

However, others are a fan of the random collab and wrote in the comments of the Instagram announcement post: “Ohhh THESE I NEED” and “K guess I’m getting meta glasses.”
Others chimed in with: “I must have these - perfect shape!!!” and “Now THESE ARE CUTEEE.”
Speaking to the BBC, a Meta spokesperson previously said: "We have teams dedicated to limiting and combating misuse, but as with any technology, the onus is ultimately on individual people to not actively exploit it."
While Meta's chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said earlier this year that ‘they're some of the fastest-growing consumer electronics in history,’ with more than seven million pairs having been sold so far.
And we predict that figure will only grow with a Kardashian involved…
