Justin Bieber fans have come up with a theory on why the singer performed at the Grammys wearing only a pair of boxer shorts yesterday (1 February).
For those who missed it, the 31-year-old 'Daisies' singer was up for four awards at the annual ceremony celebrating the best in music, including album of the year for 'Swag,' however sadly, he went home empty-handed.
He did put on an incredible performance, though, as he treated fans to a live rendition of 'YUKON,' a song from his seventh studio album.
The hitmaker, who attended the event with his wife Hailey Bieber, took to the stage wearing only a pair of satin, sparkly lavender boxer shorts and socks, which left many onlookers surprised.

Taking to X, one fan questioned: "Why is Justin Bieber in his boxers at the #Grammys?" while another admitted: "I have been a Justin Bieber fan forever. I am very confused by the fact that he is performing in boxers."

Other viewers pointed out that the sparkly purple boxers in question are actually from Bieber's brand, Skylrk, which sells phone cases, jeans, socks, sliders, sunglasses, and as you probably guessed, boxer briefs that come in three-pack sets beginning at £46 a pop.
The brand's logo could be seen on the waistband of the shorts and was also embroidered with crystal patches all over.
And it looks like the risk paid off, as the boxers reportedly sold out within 'just a few minutes after the performance,' according to the New York Times.
But that's not the only reason fans think he opted for the bold move, and some have delved into the 'symbolism' behind choosing to perform with no dancers, crazy effects and stage decorations, or elaborate costumes.
One X user penned: "The symbolism of him being shirtless in socks like fr no props, no dancers, no special effects, just bis bare talent and raw vocals almost acapella because only HE can pull that off."
While a second agreed: "Truthfully, I think Justin performed in that attire and small production to prove a point that he doesn’t need a huge production and glam to be the best. his vocals outshined everything and everyone tonight. incredible."
And a third quipped: "He goes on to prove to everyone watching that, y'all can try to take away my fortune, the respect, the catalogue, glam and clothes but nothing is touching this talent. And he doesn't need much to produce a masterpiece."

"I also think it was to prove he’s not “ vulnerable” & doesn’t care what anyone thinks anymore. He’s ready to be in the industry again but as HIMSELF. Not bc someone is trying to make some money off his success anymore," theorised a fourth.
While a fifth added: "Those were my thoughts exactly, it was very much intentional and he executed his vision flawless!!!"
So, whether it was a clever marketing tactic or a way to flaunt his talent - whatever he was aiming for, it's worked!
