The Greatest Showman is the musical drama that lit up our screens in 2017 with its stellar cast and triumphant soundtrack - and finally, it's coming to Disney+.

Yes, Disney has confirmed that subscribers to the entertainment giant's streaming service are being treated to the hit movie in August.

Initially released back in December 2017, The Greatest Showman was inspired by the story of 19th century showman P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya, the movie was a huge hit, going on to gross more than $430M (£330M) at box offices worldwide.

It was also nominated for an Academy Award - although 'This Is Me' eventually lost in the Best Original Song category to Coco's 'Remember Me' - and had a best-selling, high-charting soundtrack.

In fact, the soundtrack sold so well that they even brought out a 'Reimagined' version of it with a whole host of pop superstars such as Kesha, Pink, and Missy Elliott featured.

In February 2018, it was confirmed that a sequel to the hugely popular movie was in the works.

Director Michael Gracey told The Sun at the time: "When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it's only natural there is demand for a sequel. So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now."

Excitingly, Zac Efron also revealed he would be game for a sequel when speaking to Graham Norton in April 2019.

"What's next? I don't know but I hope there is a sequel," he teased.

While there's no work on the progress of the sequel (which has likely been delayed due to Covid-19 like the rest of the film world), we can only hope filming is due to start up soon!

More news as it comes, but for now, you can catch The Greatest Showman on Disney+ on 14th August.
