Netflix Announces Tiger King 2 Is Coming

Netflix Announces Tiger King 2 Is Coming

Netflix has just shared the news.

Netflix has just announced that Tiger King 2 is coming this year.

Netflix says "The global hit Tiger King, which attracted 64 million households in the first four weeks after its March 2020 premiere, will return to Netflix for more madness and mayhem."

Watch the announcement clip below:

The documentary series became an international sensation last March and was one of the most successful shows of lockdown. The true crime series saw Joe, a 'big cat' enthusiast, striking a rivalry with animal rights activist Carole Baskin. He was later arrested of plotting to murder Carole, as well as animal abuse.

Netflix have just announced the news on their Twitter (

In 2019, he was convicted of 17 charges of animal abuse and two counts of murder for hire, and was later sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Joe has maintained his innocence and continues to file appeals for his charges, with one appeal suggesting that he was the victim of corruption and discrimination as he is "an openly gay male with the largest collection of generic tigers and crossbreeds."

We don't know yet what exact line the second series will follow but we're sure it will check in with Joe Exotic, especially as he's shared a picture of himself while in prison recently.

The directors of the second series are Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin with the two also acting as executive producers alongside Chris Smith and Fisher Stevens.

The announcement comes after the news that the cast for a new Tiger King series recreating the events has been revealed - and it sounds like it's going to be a gripping watch!

The upcoming series, provisionally titled Joe Exotic, will star Dennis Quaid as Rick Kirkham - the producer on Joe's reality show who featured in the Netflix doc, Tiger King.

Kate McKinnon has been announced to play Carole Baskin, meanwhile John Cameron Mitchell is set to star as the tiger king himself, Joe Exotic.

The series is adapted from the Wondery Podcast, Joe Exotic, and sees the tiger king stop at nothing to put an end to the feud.

The show is expected to air exclusively on Peacock, although a release date is yet to be announced.
