Ryan Gosling Says Ken Has 'No Money, No Car, No Job' In Barbie Live-Action Film

Ryan Gosling Says Ken Has 'No Money, No Car, No Job' In Barbie Live-Action Film

Life in plastic isn't always fantastic.

Ryan Gosling has revealed that Ken will be pretty down on his luck when fans get to see him in the highly-anticipated Barbie live-action movie.

The actor, who will star opposite Margot Robbie as Barbie's bleached-blond boyfriend, explained that Ken is going through a rough patch, with 'no money, no job, and no car.'

Fans got a first glimpse at Ryan's Ken transformation just last month, but would never have guessed that the heavily tanned, perfectly sculpted character was so down in the dumps.

Ryan had been speaking about his upcoming Netflix film The Gray Man when Ken was brought up in conversation.

In The Gray Man, Gosling plays a CIA agent who, after uncovering some confidential secrets, is being hunted by assassins.

Discussing the life-or-death situation that his character finds himself in, Gosling joked that it's no where near as bad as what his other character Ken is going through.

"That Ken life is even harder than the ‘Gray Man’ life, I think,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

“Ken’s got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff."

Yikes!

Unfortunately for fans, that was all Ryan could say about the film for the time being, joking that Mattel would "come in and box me up" if he shared any more details.

Earlier this year, Ryan's co-star Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) got fans seriously excited for the film when he described the film as "incredibly unique."

Speaking to GQ, he said: "I wish I could just show you what we do day-to-day because it’s crazy."

Also cast in the film are Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Issa Rae, and Michael Cera.

Let's hope some of them will be willing to spill some more tea on the film soon!

Very little is known about what direction Greta Gerwig (Little Women) and Noah Baumback (Marriage Story), who wrote the script together, will take the film, but we can only hope that Ken will eventually find his feet!

Until the cast and crew are willing to share further details with us, we'll have to rely on some of the original Barbie animated films to get us by.

So, what are we feeling first, Swan Lake or Fairytopia?

Barbie is scheduled to hit cinemas in July 2023.
