Seriously dark Lilo & Stitch fan theory resurfaces as new live-action movie hits cinemas

Fans have been sharing some weird and wonderful theories about Lilo & Stitch after the newest version of the film was released

The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch has hit cinemas, and fans all over the world have fallen in love with the little fluffy blue alien once again.

While the story tells a sweet tale of an escaped intergalactic experiment gone wrong who meets an orphaned little girl, a strange fan theory about the film has resurfaced once more.

After all, some Disney tales appear to be based on source material like the Brothers Grimm tales so it wouldn't be too unusual if there was darker theme at the heart of the Hawaii-based movie.

Fans have all been complaining about one thing in the live-action, but there's a rather unique theory doing the rounds online.

Lilo is a young girl being raised by her older sister Nani, when the chaotic but adorable Stitch comes crash-landing (literally) into their lives when they adopt him as a quirky dog.

A social worker, called Cobra Bubbles, oversees Lilo's care after her parents were sadly killed in a car accident.

One Reddit fan theory thinks there's more than meets the eye to the film and how Nani and Lilo's parents died.

They've shared a theory that is so wild, it might just work.

Reddit user kapu_koa's theory is that Lilo and Nani's parents were actually in the CIA and died in the line of duty.

Instead of being a social worker, the theory speculates that Cobra Bubbles was a colleague of her parents and promised to look after them.

During the film, Bubbles confesses he was part of the CIA as well as a social worker.

The Redditor wrote: "In the movie, when the Galactic Council comes to collect Stitch, the leader mentions she recognised the social worker Cobra Bubbles."

"He then tells her he was with the CIA at Roswell. Now, we're led to believe a CIA agent who was involved in alien contact just walked away to become a social worker? I think not," they insisted.

The user then summarised: "He isn't there to be a social worker; he's there to watch over them."

They also argued that a real social worker would have removed Lilo from the home at a much earlier point due to her behaviour and the state of the house, along with the fact Nani was clearly struggling to cope with raising her sister.

Other social media users soon joined in with their theories as to why the idea seemingly holds weight.

One suspected that Lilo's father took her along on low-risk surveillance operations, hence her obsession with photographing people on the island.

They wrote: "No one would look twice at a father and daughter taking pictures together he used her as a cover of sorts. The target was an overweight person, something Lilo distinctly remembers, and now she takes the same pictures as a way of remaining close to her deceased father."

Lilo also has an array of weird and wonderful books in her bedroom, including titles such as road maps of Iowa, a book about oyster farming and practical voodoo.

Theorists were wondering if that was also part of her alleged CIA upbringing, with her parents having many specialised interests as a cover for various roles.

"Woah. Not bad. So are they really dead?" asked one commenter.

Another praised: "One of my favourite movies, with a beautiful fan theory that I'm accepting as fact, nice work."

Do you believe it?
