'Tis the season to be jolly and eat as many pig in blankets as we can before the end of December.

And if you're a die-hard fan of the pork favourite then you'll have to visit this Nottinghamshire chip shop, who launched a foot long, deep fried pig in blanket.

We've heard of wurst things!

The Jolly Fryer in Kirkby-in-Ashfield first created the foot-long banger, which comes wrapped in three rashers of bacon before being dipped in batter and deep fried, in 2018.

Adding to the gluttony of it all, the foot-long sausage is also served with a giant Yorkshire pudding, chips and gravy.

The banger is not for the faint-hearted but has proved such a hit since it landed in the chip shop that they have sold 2,000 of them.

Chip shop owner Theo Tsiolas, 36, said: "We did it last year and sold 2,000 sausages in 30 days. It was unbelievable.

"We get the sausage and wrap three rashers of incredible smoked streaky bacon around it. Then we flour them, batter them and fry them at 175 degrees. It's just the best taste in the world.

"We serve them with chips, gravy and big Yorkshire puddings as an added bonus as well as mushy peas," he added.

"It's a festive treat. We're incorporating a Sunday dinner and a chip supper in one. The reaction so far has been huge. People loved it last year and can't wait till we serve it this Christmas".

The chippy tea connoisseur explained that he has spent the past 12 months perfecting the batter to make sure the Lincolnshire pork sausage turns out extra crispy.

The foot-long sausage is slathered in succulent smoked streaky bacon, dipped in the batter and then deep fried for a precise nine minutes.

The recipe for the sausage was originally inspired by Theo's brother Antoni who shared his creation with his batter-mad brother.

Theo said: "We've used great ingredients to make this year's banger the best we've ever had.

"The sausages are of the highest quality and the bacon is spectacular. Combined with some chips and gravy it's just a marriage made in heaven.

"I remember someone last year saying it was the best thing they've ever had. We're expecting to sell 200 when they launch and I expect we'll probably surpass 2,000 this Christmas.

"It's the most unique experience you can ever have. The sausages just make your day."
