You can now pick up a puff pastry covered pig in blanket - and oh my god.

Pigs in blankets are unequivocally the best thing on the Christmas dinner plate (do not @ us), and there's not a lot that can be improved upon those bacony sausagey mouthfuls of heaven.

Unless you wrap them in pastry that is...

Yes, that is where we're going with this - pigs in blankets sausage rolls exist and we are dribbling already.

ASDA has launched the hybrid of dreams today, which sees seasoned sausage meat wrapped in streaky bacon and hand-rolled in flaky puff pastry.

They are cooked fresh in store meaning you can pick a warm one up from ASDA's bakery any time you like - i.e. as soon as we get out of work.

Sold singularly, a pig in blanket sausage roll will cost you just 99p. Greggs who?

When it comes to food, we're often against messing with a classic, but when two icons come together to form the mashup of our dreams, well then we're ready to listen.

An ASDA spokesperson said of the creations: "Our Christmas sandwich range is always popular with customers every year and this year we wanted to create something that's also made for on-the-go eating and includes a family favourite - pigs in blankets.

"ASDA's Pig in Blanket Sausage Roll is a delicious take on a Christmas classic, and what's more it's produced in the UK. We hope that customers will enjoy the sausage roll and we're certain that it will become a lunchtime staple."

In other pigs in blankets-related news (the only news there should be IMO), Aldi launched Scorpion Chilli Pigs In Blankets just in time for Christmas and they're a super spicy update on the classic.

The dinner plate addition is not for the fainthearted, as they're spiced with the super fiery breed of chilli sourced especially from Trinidad.

According to the Guinness Book Of Records, the Scorpion Chilli - or 'Butch T' pepper, as it is also known - was ranked the hottest in the world in 2011, and held the title for three consecutive years.
